Job summary

Bollinger Shipyards in Pascagoula, MS seeks a 1st Class Structural Welder to join its highly skilled welding team. The role involves welding structural metal components to blueprints or work orders, with emphasis on strong cosmetic welds and accurate setup.

Ideal candidates have 6–12 months of marine welding experience and certifications in 3G/4G, plus ability to pass NDE tests and read welding symbols. On-site position with practical hands-on work.

Qualifications

  • Ability to gouge as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains tools and sets up equipment for the job.
  • Binds pre-assembled components and tacked assemblies.
  • Produces good, cosmetic welds.
  • Removes excess weld, slag and splatter as required.
  • Ensures minimal rework and checks welds for defects.
  • Troubleshoots welding equipment; may gouge to adjust seams.

Job description

Job Title: 1st Class Structural Welder

Location: Pascagoula, MS

Position Overview: The 1st Class Structural Welder welds together structural metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders, or oral instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtains the appropriate tools needed for a particular job and subsequently sets up their equipment.
  • Binds together structural metal components that have been pre-assembled and tacked into place.
  • Performs good, cosmetic sound welds.
  • Examines his/her work and may chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter with the appropriate tools (i.e., grinder, chipping hammer, etc.).
  • Leaves little to no rework when job is complete (i.e., cold rolls, pin holes, wraps, burn thorough, etc.).
  • Troubleshoots his/her equipment.
  • May gouge to remove a member, make a seam sound, remove weld reinforcement, etc.
Qualifications
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of Marine experience in welding is required.
Skills And Abilities
  • Cable of helping to supervise a crew of welders.
  • Certified in 3G and 4G in at least 3 or more of the following disciplines preferred: flux core, short arc, aluminum, aluminum Heli arc, stainless steel, carbon-to-stainless steel, and submerged arc.
  • Able to make a full penetration welds that will pass NDE Testing (i.e., x-ray, ultrasound, magnetic particles, dye penetrate).
  • Able to lay out track marks.
  • Able to identify most commonly used welding symbols.
  • Able to gouge.
