Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking skilled workers to repair, maintain, and replace bridges and associated structures in accordance with safety standards and VDOT procedures.

The role requires CDL/ DOT medical card within 11 months, ability to perform heavy manual labor, read and follow instructions, and work at heights or in adverse conditions while collaborating effectively with a team.

• Valid Driver's License.

Job Description

To repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures in accordance with established safety standards, VDOT specifications and procedures, and equipment operation standards.

What Will Make You Successful

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Ability to read and to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work at heights, in heavy traffic, over and in water and under other adverse conditions.
• Ability to work well individually and as a team member.
• Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials and safety practices.

• Skill in fabricating steel components and welding.
• Skill in the operation and use of light and medium-duty equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, etc.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Construction or related field desired.
• Experience fabricating or welding steel components.
• Experience in bridge maintenance or construction.
• Experience in carpentry, building forms and false works, and concrete placement and finishing.
• Experience with light to medium-duty equipment and hand and power tools.
• Flagger
• Valid Certified Crane Operator with appropriate endorsements.
• Valid Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements.
