Job summary

Sigma Defense Systems is seeking a Web Developer in San Diego, CA to build and maintain DoD-grade web applications. The role emphasizes React and TypeScript frontends, RESTful APIs with Python backends, and secure authentication with RBAC.

You will work with DoD-style security requirements, configure PostgreSQL databases, and ensure robust data handling in restricted networks. A Bachelor’s degree is required and a U.S. citizen, with active clearance preferred.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in developing, deploying, and supporting application suites in DoD or enterprise environments with ASD STIGs and cybersecurity requirements.
• Experience with data analytics, reporting systems, and dashboard development via web interfaces.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing; familiarity with secure web servers.

Responsibilities

• Develop applications for DoD, federal government, or highly regulated environments.
• Maintain JSON Schemas to define data structures, fields, and validation rules.
• Develop and maintain web-based distributed applications using React and modern JS/TS frameworks (React Admin, Recharts).
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using Python-based backends (Flask or similar).
• Configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, queries, migrations, and backups.
• Implement authentication/authorization (RBAC) with Keycloak to separate user/admin duties.
• Configure Windows Server environments to support services, databases, APIs, and web apps.
• Collaborate with developers, testers, admins, SMEs, and end-users to gather requirements and deliver features.
• Troubleshoot and debug applications to resolve defects and performance issues.
• Develop reusable components and document architecture, interfaces, and changes.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience developing, deploying, and supporting application suites preferably in DoD or enterprise environments and in accordance with DoD Application Security and Development Security Technical Implementation Guides (ASD STIGs) and applicable cybersecurity requirements
• Experience with data analytics, reporting systems, and dashboard development, including presenting application metrics and operational data through web-based interfaces.
• Experience with Docker/containerized applications is preferred
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing is preferred
• Familiarity with Nginx or similar web servers/reverse proxies is preferred
• Experience working in offline, isolated, or restricted-network environments.
• Understanding of application security, access control, secure API development.
• Experience documenting system architecture, APIs, deployment procedures, and administrative processes
• Possession of an active Secret security clearance is preferred but not required
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field of study.

Essential Job Duties (not all-inclusive)

• Develop applications in DoD, federal government, or other highly regulated environments.
• Maintain JSON Schemas to define data structures, required fields, data types, and validation rules.
• Develop and maintain web based distributed applications using React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, including administrative and data-driven interfaces using frameworks such as React Admin and Recharts.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs to support application functionality, system integration, and data exchange, with experience using Python-based backend services such as Flask or comparable frameworks.
• Configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases, including database schema design, SQL query development and optimization, migrations, data integrity, and backup/recovery.
• Implement and maintain authentication, authorization, role-based access control (RBAC), and user account management, including technologies such as Keycloak, to enforce separation between user and administrator functions.
• Configure and maintain Windows Server environments supporting application services, databases, APIs, and web applications.
• Work directly with developers, testers, system administrators, subject matter experts, and end-users to gather requirements, identify user needs, and develop new features based on user feedback.
• Troubleshoot and debug applications to identify and resolve software defects, performance issues, integration problems, and other operational issues.
• Develop and maintain application frameworks and reusable software components, as well as documenting software architecture, configuration, interfaces, and software changes

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 annually.
