Job summary

DC Army National Guard is seeking a Firefighter to protect lives and property, learn to operate firefighting equipment, and respond to emergencies. You'll train in basic and advanced techniques, perform fire suppression, rescue operations and safety inspections, while earning a regular paycheck and pursuing tuition assistance.

Expect a program that includes 10 weeks of Basic Training and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, with opportunities to transition to civilian firefighting careers

Qualifications

• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to learn firefighting equipment, procedures and safety protocols.

If you've ever dreamed of saving lives, join the Army National Guard as a Firefighter and become a warrior on and off the battlefield. No matter the circumstance, you will be called upon to protect lives, and help prevent fires in buildings, aircraft, and aboard ships. To perform firefighting and rescue operations, you will learn how to operate firefighting equipment and vehicles, administer first aid, and respond to hazardous material emergencies. This includes the operation of pumps, hoses, and extinguishers, entering vehicles and buildings to fight fires and rescue personnel, driving fire and emergency rescue vehicles, and caring for injured personnel. You will also perform fire hazard inspections, teach fire protection procedures, and maintain firefighting equipment. Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to enjoy a civilian career in a firefighting crew in your community. Additional certifications or licenses may enable you to work as a fire inspector, fire investigator, or fire safety specialist.

Job training for Firefighters consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 13 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Training consists of time in the classroom and work in the field.

Requirements

• Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
• Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
