Explorer Middle School in Everett, WA seeks a part-time 1:1 paraeducator to support a student during 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. sessions, 180 days per year. Reports to the Principal and works under the teacher’s direction to deliver aligned instruction and safety.

Starting immediately, the role does not include medical or dental benefits. Prior paraeducator experience and WA state qualifications are preferred; position may involve assisting with IEP goals and behavior support.

Qualifications

  • Be at least eighteen years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold an associate degree or higher, or 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher, or completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, or
  • Received a passing score on PESB approved assessments: ParaPro, Pearson Paraprofessional, or Master Teacher program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher with daily supervision to maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Administer tests, collect and update student records, and assess progress.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior; share observations with staff.
  • Provide 1:1 support and assist with special education services as needed.
  • Crossing guard duties before and after school; monitor cafeteria and recess areas.

Job Description

This is a 2 hour per day, 180 days per year, 1:1 Paraeducator position at Explorer MiddleSchool. This position does not include medical or dental benefits. Anticipated start date isas soon as possible.

Hours for this position are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with a student requiring 1:1 support.

Minimum Qualifications: Basic WA State Paraeducator qualifications and experience working with children.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working successfully with students who have IEP goals related to social-emotional development and behavior.

JOB SUMMARY

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids).
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned work siteand regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.
Education/Certification
  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or itsequivalent.
  • Meetoneof the following requirements:
    • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university,or
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university,or
    • Completed an apprenticeship as aparaeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council,or
    • Received a passing score on one of the followingPESBapproved assessments:
      • ETSParaProAssessment.
      • Pearson’sParaprofessionalAssessment.
      • The Master Teacher Inc.Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Depending on assignment,may berequired to complete behaviormodificationprograms, including safephysicalrestraining techniques and/or other training as required.
