Job summary

Greenwood Community Schools is seeking a caring Instructional Assistant to provide individualized 1:1 support for a student, closely collaborating with teachers and behavior support staff to ensure safe, successful access to the school environment.

You will support routines, academics, and social-emotional skills while following established student safety plans. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Patient, calm, flexible, and able to build positive relationships with young children.
• Experience with behavioral, developmental, or special education needs preferred but not required.
• Comfortable working as part of a collaborative team and following student support and safety plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 supervision and support throughout the student’s school day.
• Support routines, transitions, academic activities, social-emotional skills, and behavioral expectations.
• Implement strategies outlined by the student’s education and behavior plans under certified staff guidance.
• Use positive reinforcement, visual supports, prompting, redirection, and other strategies to encourage behavior and participation.
• Assist with student, peer, and staff safety; supervise transitions, recess, and activities; collect basic behavioral and academic data as directed.
• Communicate and collaborate with teachers, special education staff, support staff, and administrators.
• Maintain student confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.

STANDARD HOURS: 5 Hours per Day / 25 Hours per Week

Position Overview

Greenwood Community Schools is seeking a caring, patient, and dependable Instructional Assistant to provide individualized 1:1 support. The instructional assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher, behavior support staff, and school administration to help the student safely and successfully access the school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 supervision and support throughout the student's school day.

Support the student with classroom routines, transitions, academic activities, social-emotional skills, and behavioral expectations. Implement strategies and supports outlined by the student's educational and behavior plans under the direction of certified staff.

Utilize positive reinforcement, visual supports, prompting, redirection, and other appropriate strategies to encourage successful behavior and participation.

Assist with maintaining the safety of the student, peers, and staff, including providing close supervision during transitions, recess, and other school activities. Collect or assist with basic behavioral and academic data as directed by the student's educational team.

Communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers, special education staff, support staff, and administrators.

Maintain student confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
