Qualifications

  • Hold a current Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement.
  • Reading K-12 endorsement is preferred.
  • Demonstrated special education teaching experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with inclusionary models of service delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience with writing IEPs and behavior plans; data collection and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Special Education support as indicated by the MDT and IEPs to identified students in their least restrictive settings.
  • Work with families and general education teachers on IEP development and implementation to achieve maximum student success.
  • Provide support to identified students as part of a school-wide positive behavior intervention system.
  • Collaborate with MDT on referrals, assessments, and intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with Special Education staff to provide quality educational programs, assess and monitor progress, and train paraeducators.
  • Plan and deliver inclusive IEPs and collaborate on planning, teaching, co-teaching, and behavior modification.
  • Collaborate with support services and coordinate transition planning for students.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hold a current Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement.
  • Reading K-12 endorsement is preferred.
  • Demonstrated special education teaching experience.
  • Additional training in evidence-based interventions for supporting students in reading and mathematics is preferred.
  • Support PBIS, RTI, and MTSS systems as a collaborator and consultant
  • Take a leadership role school-wide in data-based decision-making, universal screening systems, progress monitoring, and providing support to students in a multi-tiered system of intervention.
  • Knowledge and experience teaching students with various disabilities
  • Knowledge and experience conducting family meetings; writing and implementing IEPs and specific behavior plans; use of assessment measures, data collection, case management, record keeping, and report writing; implementing direct instruction programs and specially designed curriculum.
  • Knowledge and experience with inclusionary models of service delivery.
  • Develop schedules for special education students and paraeducators.
  • Assist the principal in developing training for educational assistants in the core curriculum area.
  • Knowledge of the legal requirements of Special Education.
  • Knowledge and experience with regular education curricula and state standards, and the ability to modify such for special needs students.
  • Knowledge and experience with current research and instructional "best practices."
  • Outstanding communication skills, flexibility, ability to work in teams, and sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated skill and competence in computer skills, awareness of technology for use in the classroom, and familiarity with assistive hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated compatibility with fellow staff members, students, and families
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the total school program, to work collaboratively with colleagues, and a commitment to achieve school goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge and experience with project or place-based learning preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide Special Education support as indicated by the MDT and IEPs to identified students in their least restrictive settings.
  • Work in partnership with families and general education teachers on IEP development and implementation to achieve maximum student success.
  • Provide support to identified students as part of a school-wide positive behavior intervention system.
  • Collaborate with other team members on the MDT to complete referrals, and assessments, make recommendations, design intervention plans and coordinate the implementation of plans.
  • Collaborate with Special Education staff (including itinerant providers and paraprofessionals) to provide quality educational programs for identified students, assess and monitor student progress, evaluate and modify programs, teach direct instruction groups, conduct IEPs, develop work schedules, train paraeducators, facilitate team meetings, and demonstrate flexibility in working in a changing educational environment.
  • Collaborate with the school staff to design and implement IEPs in an inclusive setting that accounts for the Least Restrictive Environment and may include planning, teaching, co-teaching, providing resources, modifying curriculum, and managing behavior plans.
  • Collaborate with other support services such as LAP, Counseling, Community Counseling, other community agencies, medical personnel, and other special education support personnel.
  • Participate in the implementation, assessment, and evaluation of inclusionary modifications and practices.
  • Plan and provide for the transition of students moving between programs.
  • Participate in staff functions, committees, and meetings.
  • Collaborate with school staff to plan and deliver Maritime and place-based learning in alignment with the district’s mission and vision.

Bargaining Unit: Port Townsend Education Association

Salary Range: DOE, 2025-26 $61,500-$119,584
