Job summary

Lexington Public Schools seeks a 1.0 FTE High School Special Education Teacher to lead language learning program initiatives. You will design literacy-focused, multisensory instruction and align with MA DESE standards to support LLP students.

You will collaborate with regular educators, teams, and families to implement IEPs, monitor progress, and ensure inclusive access to the general curriculum. The role emphasizes data-driven planning and ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Special Education preferred.
  • DESE certification in Moderate Disabilities required at the appropriate grade level.
  • DESE certification in Severe Disabilities and previous experience will be considered if moderate license is pursued within the first year of employment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; high level of capability with technology.
  • Assist in protection of students and school property; participate in drills as required by law and policy.
  • Experience with inclusive practices and IEP collaboration is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials and supports for students with language-based learning disabilities through literacy instruction.
  • Implements multi-sensory and technology-assisted instructional lessons and supports.
  • Adapts general education curriculum to LLP students' needs across content areas.
  • Collaborates with regular educators to modify curriculum per MA DESE standards.
  • Oversees development and implementation of IEPs for eligible students.
  • Supervises and trains paraprofessionals delivering language-based supports.
  • Maintains classroom behavior standards to support a positive learning environment.
  • Collects and analyzes data on academic and social growth to inform planning and progress monitoring.
  • Communicates progress with parents and during conferences.
  • Participates in district professional development and required program initiatives.
  • Administers standardized tests per district program to determine eligibility.

Position Title: 1.0 FTE High School Special Education Teacher - Language Learning Program

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Building Principal and the Director of Special Education

Terms of Employment: Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.

October 29, 2025 start date. Unit A 25-26 Salary Range Salary prorated based on start date.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials and instructional supports for students with language based learning disabilities through individualized instruction in Literacy.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing multi-sensory and technological instructional lessons and supports.
  • Adapts and/or supports general education curriculum to the needs of each pupil in all content areas.
  • Supports regular educator by modifying curriculum for LLP students, using the course of study adopted by the MA DESE.
  • Works to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to be full participants in the general curriculum and classroom.
  • Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education.
  • Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education.
  • Supervises, supports and trains paraprofessionals as they implement instruction and provide multi-sensory language based support.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Collects, records, and evaluates on going data on pupils’ academic and social growth, to support lesson planning, IEP development, and progress monitoring.
  • Communicates regularly with parents in addition to conferences to discuss pupil’s progress.
  • Provide wrap around student services through ongoing collaboration with school and district personnel.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program and to determine special education eligibility.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
