Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic R&D scientist driven by curiosity, with a particular skill in analytical techniques. The candidate is expected to contribute to the success of our R&D pipeline by carrying out research studies in line with the needs of the R&D project and by performing QC activities within the scope of accreditation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of bee products and not only determine the characteristic compounds in these products but also clarify how these compounds might impact human health. He/She will also have the opportunity to work in collaboration with both academy and industry researchers globally on the development of new scientific projects. The ideal candidate must have a strong organic/analytical chemistry background. The role will work with a variety of techniques, including chromatography, electrophoresis, spectroscopy, in vitro efficacy assays, and various wet chemistry applications.

Duties and Responsibilities / Job Description
  • Responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, with roles including both developing and/or transferring analytical methods and performing analysis, reporting, and documentation.
  • Independently apply analytical methods for the analysis of small and large molecules present in bee products or mixtures derived from these products.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and analytical-technical documentation (study plans, reports, standard operating procedures - SOPs).
  • Track record of execution of multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring work is planned and scheduled appropriately, and looking for cross-functional synergy effects.
  • Paying particular attention to the specification/needs of analysis and responsible for the results and quality of preanalytical and analytical processes.
  • Scientific laboratory-scale literature research, including market and competitor analysis.
  • Having a positive attitude as a team player and striving to learn and contribute to the company culture.
  • Finding sustainable solutions to complex support cases in the shortest possible time, applying analysis and troubleshooting approaches.
Desired skills and experiences / Qualifications
  • Degree in chemistry, food/chemistry engineering, or related fields. MSc, Ph.D. degree, or relevant professional experience (5+ years) in the field of associated sciences will be an asset.
  • Experiences in food analysis/research laboratory providing product safety/quality and authenticity validation and R&D activities using a couple of instrumental techniques such as Spectroscopy (UV, FTIR, NMR, etc), Electrophoresis (1D-2D-PAGE, Western, Dot-Blot, Capillary, etc), Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, Preparative LC (FPLC for protein purification, MPLC for flash chromatography), LC-MS – HRMS (QQQ - Orbitrap), EA-IRMS, GC-MS), ELISA, in vitro efficacy testings, and traditional wet chemistry principles.
  • Advanced understanding and hands-on experience in the fields of analytical/organic chemistry and familiarity with one of the omic platforms (e.g., proteomic, metabolomic, lipidomic, volatilomic).
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Accreditation standards and documentation, and adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Accreditation compliance in all operations.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Applied knowledge of analytical method validation and measurement of uncertainty for testing laboratories.
  • Proficient in scientific data analysis, statistical interpretation (chemometric tools, multivariate and bivariate exploratory analyses), and reporting skills.
  • Experience in verbal and written presentation of information to multiple audiences, including scientists, executives, and non-scientific personnel.
  • Self-motivated and strong team worker with good communication skills.
  • Fast, forward thinker with the ability to multitask and prioritize work, particularly when working to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production, QA, QC, and Engineering.
