Job summary

UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a 3‑year Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Microalgae & Microbiomes Research Group at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science, BFE. The project focuses on programmable marine microbiomes and mechanistic interactions within the diatom phycosphere, with emphasis on synthetic biology and multi‑omics.

You will contribute to developing experimental model systems, work independently and in an interdisciplinary team, and may qualify for

Qualifications

  • Norwegian or equivalent PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  • Experience in experimental microbiology, molecular biology, and scientific publishing in peer‑reviewed journals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply experimental approaches for studying interactions between marine microalgae and associated bacteria within the diatom phycosphere.
  • Cultivate and engineer marine bacteria and microalgae; construct synthetic microbial consortia.
  • Investigate metabolite exchange and nutrient cycling in marine microbial ecosystems using multi‑omics.
