Job summary

Global Roles is seeking a Data Analyst Intern to support UN Women Europe and Central Asia Regional Office with gender data compilation, statistical analysis and visualization. Tasks include data cleaning, creating charts and dashboards, and contributing to analytical briefs and reports.

The intern should be pursuing postgraduate studies in gender studies, statistics or related fields, and possess strong English communication skills and proficiency in MS Excel; knowledge of Power BI, R, or SPSS

Qualifications

The intern should be pursuing academic studies in gender studies, statistics, demography, social sciences with a strong quantitative component or other similar subject at post graduate level.
Be enrolled in a post graduate school programme (second university degree, or equivalent, or higher).
Academic coursework or research related to quantitative research methods statistics, statistics, data science, gender equality study would be a strong asset.
Strong computer skills with the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point are required.
Knowledge and practical experience in at least one statistical software package, such as R, Stata or SPSS, is required.
Knowledge of basic statistical methods, descriptive analysis, trend analysis and data visualization is required.
Demonstrated ability to produce complex charts, tables and other visual representations of quantitative data is required.
Experience in conducting comparative/multi-country analysis and generating analytical reports, using quantitative and qualitative methods, would be an asset.
Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Power BI, including the development of data visualizations and/or dashboards, would be a strong asset.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
Knowledge of Russian would be an asset.
Experience in organizing events and/or training would be an asset.

Responsibilities

Support the compilation, processing and organization of gender-related data and indicators from a range of national, regional and international data sources, including official statistics, household surveys, administrative data and international statistical databases.
Support the regular updating and maintenance of country and regional gender datasets, ensuring that the most recent available data are systematically incorporated and appropriately documented.
Conduct basic data cleaning, validation and consistency checks, including reviewing data sources, reference years, definitions, units of measurement, disaggregation and other relevant metadata, and flagging potential data gaps or inconsistencies.
Conduct descriptive statistical analysis and analysis of trends and patterns on topics related to GEWE, including comparative and time-series analysis, where data availability permits.
Prepare charts, tables and other data visualizations for inclusion in regional and country-level reports, gender data profiles, analytical briefs, presentations and other knowledge products.
Support the preparation of data and analytical inputs in response to ad hoc requests from UN Women ECA RO, country offices and other relevant stakeholders.
Additional support to the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist as needed.
