We are seeking artists and educators in writing, theater, or dance to lead Broadway Spotlight residencies for NYC public high school classrooms.

The program uses featured Broadway productions as entry points for students to explore storytelling, performance, movement, writing, and the experience of live theater.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience teaching in public school classrooms or comparable settings.
  • Professional experience or training in writing, theater, dance, or arts education.
  • Strong understanding of musical theater and arts-based instruction for high school students.
  • Experience facilitating student-centered lessons in writing, theater, dance, or arts-integrated instruction.
  • Ability to adapt instruction for diverse learning needs and disabilities.
  • Fingerprint clearance preferred by NYC/State education departments.
  • Spanish language proficiency and/or experience with multilingual learners preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead Broadway Spotlight residencies in NYC public high school classrooms.
  • Teach through one assigned discipline and support students in analyzing live theater and creating original writing, scenes, choreography or performance.
  • Guide students in discussion, analysis, collaboration and original student-created work.

Job Summary

92NY School Engagement in the Arts brings arts residencies, performances, and learning experiences to thousands of K-12 students and educators across New York City each year.

We are seeking artists and educators in writing, theater, or dance to lead Broadway Spotlight residencies for NYC public high school classrooms. The program uses featured Broadway productions as entry points for students to explore storytelling, performance, movement, writing, and the experience of live theater.

This role teaches through one assigned discipline and supports students in analyzing live theater and creating original writing, scenes, choreography, or performance work that reflects their ideas and learning. Writing and Theater tracks use a pre-developed curriculum; Dance assignments are Teaching Artist-led and aligned with program goals.

Job Responsibilities Include
  • Plan and lead Broadway Spotlight residencies in NYC public high school classrooms.
  • Teach through one assigned discipline, using featured Broadway productions to explore storytelling, performance, movement, writing, and creative response.
  • Guide students in discussion, analysis, collaboration, and original student-created work.
  • Implement the pre-developed curriculum for Writing and Theater tracks, or develop and lead Dance activities aligned with program goals when assigned.
  • Adapt instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Prepare students for culminating writing samples, scenes, dance pieces, performances, or other program showcases.
  • Participate in required trainings, curriculum meetings, planning meetings, and professional development.
  • Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school partners.
  • Arrive prepared and complete required program documentation, including photos, student testimonials, attendance records, or other materials requested by 92NY.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching in public school classrooms or comparable educational settings; experience with Grades 9-12 strongly preferred.
  • Professional experience or training in writing, theater, dance, musical theater, arts education, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of musical theater, contemporary Broadway productions, and arts-based instruction for high school students.
  • Experience facilitating student-centered lessons in writing, theater, dance, performance, ELA/literacy, or arts-integrated instruction.
  • Ability to engage and re-engage large classroom groups with varied learning needs.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach from a pre-developed curriculum, where applicable, while remaining flexible and responsive in the classroom.
  • Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners preferred.
Work Environment & Requirements

Applicants should be available for required curriculum training, professional development, and planning meetings with 92NY staff in September/October 2026. Teaching takes place during regular school hours, 8:00 AM-2:30 PM, with occasional after-school hours, 2:30-5:00 PM.

Sessions typically consist of 45-minute class periods, with one or two classes per school visit. Partner schools are located across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.

Residency schedules are determined by school assignment.
