What You'll Do
You will own AI-powered features from idea → prototype → production.
You'll:
- Build AI features for mobile and web products.
- Rapidly prototype new AI product ideas.
- Work with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and emerging AI providers.
- Build LLM workflows using tool calling, structured outputs, memory, context management and agents.
- Work with multimodal AI across text, image, video, vision and voice.
- Build the backend services and APIs required to turn prototypes into reliable production systems.
- Evaluate models based on quality, latency, reliability and cost.
- Design evals, monitoring, fallbacks and testing for non-deterministic AI systems.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Backend and Mobile teams.
- Take ambiguous product requirements and independently turn them into technical decisions and working products.
- Stay highly current with new models, APIs and AI development tools.
What We’re Looking For
We care more about what you've actually built than which frameworks you can list.
You should have:
- Solid software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience building production backend systems and APIs.
- Hands‑on experience shipping AI‑powered products or features to real users.
- Experience with modern LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Claude or Gemini.
- Strong understanding of prompt and context engineering.
- Experience with tool/function calling, structured outputs and multi-step AI workflows.
- Understanding of production AI trade-offs: quality, cost, latency and reliability.
- Experience working with databases, cloud infrastructure and production deployments.
- Strong ownership and ability to work with incomplete or ambiguous requirements.
- Strong professional English.
- Experience with TypeScript / Node.js is a strong plus.
- We’re roughly targeting 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience, but exceptional builders with less experience are absolutely welcome.
Multimodal AI Is a Strong Plus
We especially want to meet you if you've worked with:
- Image generation or editing
- ComfyUI / Diffusers
- Replicate / RunPod / Modal
- GPU inference
- AI chat or companion systems
AI‑Native Development
We expect our engineers to use modern AI development tools extensively.
You should be comfortable with tools such as:
- OpenAI Codex
- Cursor
- Similar AI-native engineering tools
We care about speed, but not at the expense of engineering quality.
Product Judgment Matters
We're not looking for someone who automatically reaches for the most complex AI architecture.
Sometimes the right solution is an agent.
Sometimes it's RAG.
Sometimes it's one well‑designed model call.
Sometimes it shouldn't use AI at all.
You should be able to understand the product objective, evaluate the available approaches and make the right technical decision.
You’ll Stand Out If
- You've launched your own AI product.
- You've built a consumer AI app.
- You've worked at an early-stage startup.
- You've built production AI agents or complex AI workflows.
- You've worked extensively with image or video generation.
- You've optimized AI systems for inference cost and latency.
- You actively experiment with newly released AI models.
- You have side projects or products we can actually try.
How We Work
At App Genie, engineers aren't simply handed tickets.
You'll work with a small, execution-focused team where decisions happen quickly and good ideas can reach production immediately.
We value ownership, speed, product judgment and things that actually work.
