Job summary

THIAM BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PTE LTD in Singapore seeks a qualified Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) to implement and enforce safety policies. The ideal candidate will lead safety audits, conduct regular inspections, and maintain accurate safety documentation.

You will liaise with authorities on safety matters and assist in developing a company-wide safety management system. The position requires a strong knowledge of Singapore’s safety legislation and at least 5 years of experience in the construction industry.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will be well qualified and have in-depth experience to function as a WSHO for a Main Building Contractor.

Implement and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and statutory requirements in accordance with the WSH Act, MOM & BCA regulations, and industry Codes of Practice

Lead the development and review of Safe Work Procedures (SWP), Risk Assessments (RA), and Safe Work Method Statements

Conduct regular and ad-hoc site safety inspections, audits, and walkthroughs to identify hazards and unsafe practices

Stop unsafe work when necessary and advise on remedial actions and take immediate corrective actions to eliminate or mitigate hazards

Report and investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive measures

Maintain accurate and up-to-date WSH documentation including training records, RA registers, inspection checklists, safety reports, and incident logs

Conduct site safety inductions, facilitate toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and emergency drills

Conduct safety committee meetings and safety audits for management reporting and provide guidance to the members in carrying out their safety duties

Liaise with authorities, external and internal stakeholders on safety matters

Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining the company-wide Environmental, Health and Safety Management System

Involve in ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and bizSAFE implementations and audits

Proactively collaborate with relevant stakeholders to review and improve safety processes in line with industry best practices and promote a strong safety culture

Requirements

Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety & Health or related qualifications

Registered Workplace Safety & Health Officer with the Ministry of Manpower

Minimum 5 years’ work experience as WSHO in the construction industry, preferably with prior experience involved in interior fit-out and/or A&A projects

Strong knowledge of Singapore’s WSH legislation, codes of practice, and ISO standards (45001, 14001 & 9001)

Skilled in risk assessment, incident investigation, safety auditing, and training delivery
