The Merchandise and Volunteer Manager is responsible for developing merchandise that enhances SPCA’s brand and functions as a stable revenue stream for SPCA’s non‑profit work. He/she also plays a vital role in the recruitment and retention of volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Developing volunteer recruitment strategies and reactivation strategies for passive volunteers.
- Reviewing and developing volunteer management practices.
- Developing and conducting volunteer training and recognition programmes.
- Identifying opportunities for volunteer partnerships with social service organisations, community stakeholders, corporate partners and government agencies.
- Working with other departments to identify our volunteer needs and training strategies.
- Building and maintaining relationships with volunteers and garnering their feedback to better improve our volunteer management strategies.
- Developing new strategies to increase revenue through SPCA merchandise.
- Providing regular profit and loss reports for all merchandise sales.
- Developing the annual budget for SPCA’s merchandise in consultation with Head (Community Engagement).
- Working closely with volunteers to develop new merchandise that is appealing and saleable.
- Maintaining inventory and cleanliness and customer enquiries about the SPCA Merchandise Store.
- Managing consignments and bulk orders to other organisations.
- Ensuring positive customer service and sales.
- Reaching out to potential partners for merchandise collaborations.
- Reaching out to corporates and malls for potential location for external merchandise sales.
Other Responsibilities
- Providing support for ad‑hoc events and SPCA‑led projects.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in any related field.
- Minimum 2 years in a similar position.
- Experience in the not‑for‑profit or animal related sector an advantage.

- Organisational and Administrative Competence: Highly organised and detail‑oriented in managing volunteer data, scheduling, and merchandise logistics.
- Passion for animal protection and knowledge of animal welfare issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess multidisciplinary project skills and able to work under the pressure of various concurrent priorities.
- Able to work independently and in teams, meticulous and detail oriented.
