Responsibilities
- Core Competencies
- UI/UX Design & Evaluation – Expertise in user interface and user experience design principles, with the ability to assess and enhance usability across projects.
- Teaching and Learning Application Development – Skilled in designing and developing technology-based projects (e.g., games, simulations, and interactive tools) that support innovative and effective teaching and learning practices.
- Digital Experience Management – Skilled in maintaining, updating, and improving institutional websites, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and relevance.
- Learning Technology Design & Development
- Consult with instructors to identify suitable learning tools and digital resources aligned with pedagogical goals.
- Explore and integrate emerging technologies such as AI, natural language processing (NLP), and immersive technologies (VR/AR/MR) into learning experiences.
- Design and prototype digital learning materials, interactive tools, and simulations — including those developed with Unity.
- Evaluate and enhance existing projects for improved UI/UX, accessibility, and learner engagement.
- Lead the development and enhancement of innovative technology solutions to support teaching and learning.
- Gather and analyse user feedback from faculty and students to guide iterative improvements.
- Liaise with vendors, student developers, and faculty to ensure project milestones and quality standards are met.
- Evaluate and enhance digital projects to improve user experience, accessibility, and learner engagement.
- Share and promote successful prototypes through CTE events and consultations to encourage adoption across the university.
- Technical Development & Maintenance.
- Provide technical oversight for CTE's digital platforms, ensuring that all learning tools, simulations, and applications run reliably, securely, and with high performance.
- Collaborate closely with the web and database manager, as well as the university's IT team, to align development activities with institutional infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance standards.
- Oversee the CTE website and ensure it accurately reflects current initiatives and resources.
- Apply data analytics to monitor website engagement and user trends.
- Perform regular updates and maintenance to ensure compatibility across devices and platforms.
- Manage department dashboards, data flows, and Power Automate pipelines.
- Apply analytics to monitor usage and engagement across CTE's platforms.
- Innovation and Emerging Technologies
- Share and showcase successful prototypes and innovations through CTE events, workshops, and consultations.
- Support the setup and configuration of applications for teaching activities and departmental events.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director to prepare reports, summaries, and recommendations that inform CTE's strategic planning and innovation roadmap.
- Provide second-level technical support for faculty, students, and CTE events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Graduate Degree in Computer Science or a related area.
- 3 to 5 years relevant working experience.
- Proficient in CSS, HTML, Javascript, NodeJS, PHP, MySQL, Python, PowerBI, Unity.
- Proficient in evaluating user interfaces and usage patterns.
- Application Development – Demonstrated competence in front-end and back-end application design and development, including knowledge of back-end web and server technologies.
- Web Mastery – Skilled in maintaining, updating, and improving institutional websites, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and relevance.
- UI/UX Design & Evaluation – Expertise in user interface and user experience design principles, with the ability to assess usage patterns and enhance usability across and accessibility projects.
- Project Management – Ability to communicate design proposals and specifications to various stakeholders and negotiate alternatives and solutions.
- Experience in working on Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (VR, AR, MR) is advantageous, but not required.
- Experience in working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning is advantageous, but not required.
- Experience in DAX and creating POWERBI Reports is advantageous, but not required.
- Experience in instructional design roles, and sound understanding of learning design principles, theories and concepts are desirable.
- Experience in developing applications for university or higher education is a bonus.
- Knowledge of statistics and background in systems design background are advantageous.
- Knowledge of data analytics is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Design Thinking principles and Agile Project Management Methodology.
- Excellent command of both oral and written English.
- Excellent team player and ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Sound understanding of learning design principles, theories and concepts is desirable.
- Sound knowledge of educational technology tools.
Other Information
Candidates who do not possess the stipulated qualifications but have relevant work experience may still apply. Remuneration and appointment terms shall commensurate with qualifications and experience. SMU reserves the right to modify the appointment terms where necessary.
