Job summary

A-star Testing And Inspection in Singapore seeks a seasoned Hull Inspection and UTM Supervisor to plan and manage hull inspections and ultrasonic thickness surveys for vessels and offshore assets, ensuring surveys meet classification societies and client requirements.

You will lead and develop UTM technicians, maintain approvals, review readings for corrosion, coordinate with class surveyors, prepare quotations, deploy teams, and drive safe, timely, and cost-effective project delivery while

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage hull inspections and ultrasonic thickness surveys for vessels and offshore assets.
• Ensure surveys and reports meet classification societies and clients' requirements.
• Obtain, maintain and renew the company's classification society approvals for UTM services, including audits.
• Attend technical and commercial meetings with ship superintendents, owners, class surveyors and shipyards.
• Lead and develop UTM technicians, ensuring qualifications and calibration remain compliant.
• Review thickness readings, identify corrosion and coordinate with class surveyors on survey requirements.
• Prepare quotations, deploy teams and oversee safe, timely and cost-effective project delivery.
• Build client relationships and support business development for hull inspection and UTM services.

Role & responsibilities

• Plan and manage hull inspections and ultrasonic thickness surveys for vessels and offshore assets.
• Ensure surveys and reports meet the requirements of the relevant classification societies and clients.
• Obtain, maintain and renew the company's classification society approvals for UTM services, including preparing for audits and closing out findings.
• Attend technical and commercial meetings with ship superintendents, shipowners, class surveyors and shipyards.
• Lead and develop UTM technicians, ensuring personnel qualifications, equipment calibration and survey procedures remain compliant.
• Review thickness readings, identify corrosion and areas requiring further assessment, and coordinate with class surveyors on survey requirements.
• Prepare quotations, deploy teams and oversee safe, timely and cost-effective project delivery.
• Build client relationships and support business development for hull inspection and UTM services.

Preferred candidate profile

• Relevant technical qualification in marine engineering, naval architecture, mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in hull inspection and UTM surveys, with supervisory or management experience.
• Valid UT / UTM Level II certification under a recognised certification scheme.
• Strong knowledge of ship structures, corrosion assessment, class survey requirements and UTM reporting.
• Experience managing UTM firm approvals and audits with classification societies.
• Good communication skills and confidence in dealing with ship superintendents, class surveyors and shipyard teams.
• Willingness to travel and attend onboard and shipyard assignments.
