Job summary

NCS is seeking an intern to support software changes for the Robot Fleet Manager and Robot Agents. You will contribute to the development of a robot-agnostic fleet system spanning indoor robots to autonomous vehicles, working with robot communication protocols and simulation tools.

The role involves hands-on interaction with physical robot systems, firmware integration, and assisting in debugging hardware-software interfaces.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with ROS and RMF concepts.
• Understanding of robot communication protocols.
• Experience with robot simulation tools (Gazebo).
• Proficiency in Python and/or Java.
• Basic exposure to embedded/firmware development is a plus.
• Interest in agentic AI and autonomous systems.

Job Description

• Support implementation of software changes to Robot Fleet Manager and Robot Agents
• Contribute to development and maintenance of NCS's robot-agnostic fleet system, covering indoor robots to autonomous vehicles
• Work with robot communication protocols and simulation tools
• Support the expansion of agentic AI capabilities to improve user workflows
• Interact with physical robot systems as part of software development and testing
• Support firmware-level integration interfacing software with onboard sensors, controllers, and embedded firmware on physical robot platforms
• Assist in troubleshooting hardware-software interface issues (e.g. sensor drivers, communication interfaces, firmware updates) during fleet integration.

Qualifications

• Foundational familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) and RMF (Robotics Middleware Framework) concepts
• Understanding of robot communication protocols
• Experience with robot simulation tools (e.g. Gazebo)
• Programming proficiency in Python and/or Java
• Basic exposure to embedded/firmware development or hardware-software interfacing (e.g. microcontrollers, sensor drivers, serial/CAN communication) a plus
• Interest in agentic AI and autonomous systems
