About the Division/Dept

The Commercial Distribution Division is responsible for the growth of commercial businesses across multiple channels including Bancassurance, Intermediaries, Direct channels and Partnerships. It is also responsible for providing holistic, bespoke insurance solutions for its commercial customers, delivering service excellence and increasing market awareness of UOI to achieve customers’ trust and recognition.

Job Purpose

As a Business Underwriter for commercial lines, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth, underwriting quality and mentorship of the team members. This will include growing the business from key channels including bancassurance, partnerships and FA, with product design and setup while providing exceptional service and advisory to key commercial client potential.

Main Responsibilities
  • Underwrite commercial policies within the risk appetite, providing appropriate pricing and risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to new initiatives across Distribution division, by supporting product and proposition creation and development including product design, policy wording review, product guide (for BD/sales purpose), product setup, and proposal forms, etc.
  • Create and design new opportunities to deliver commercial line products to new customer segments.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to Underwriters to enhance their knowledge of general insurance products and improve risk management knowledge.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Mentor and coach team members on the job, advising on cases and deals, ensuring that staff work cohesively as a team.
  • Together with the team, provide excellent service by addressing enquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring customer and partner satisfaction.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, product knowledge, and market developments to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
  • Undertake any other assignments as allocated by the Division Head, STO and the CEO to contribute to the overall corporate objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in general insurance, particularly in the area of commercial insurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build rapport and relationships withpartners and customers.
  • Sound understanding of the insurance industry, including regulations and market dynamics.
  • Ability to conduct effective training sessions for team members or external partners on insuranceproducts.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaborate as a team.
  • Strong people management and coaching skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
  • Ability to put customers at the core of the business.
