A leading international education institution in Singapore is seeking a full-time Trip Safety Specialist to support trip planning and risk assessments across both campuses. This role involves training trip leaders and ensuring adherence to safety policies, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have relevant educational qualifications and experience in expedition activities.
UWCSEA is seeking a full-time Trip Safety Specialist (Dual Campus) to join the Trip Safety Team.
The Trip Safety Specialist (Dual Campus) is part of the Trip Safety Team, a department within the College that supports the delivery of trips. The Trip Safety Team is a “critical friend” to trip leaders and administrative support, as well as an adviser to senior leaders on matters of policy.
The Trip Safety Specialist assists the Trip Safety Manager to oversee and support trip leaders to plan, risk assess, execute and reflect on trips in line with the College trip management policies.
As with all roles in a dynamic and forward-looking organisation, the responsibilities and reporting lines associated with this position may evolve over time in response to the college’s strategic and operational needs.
The role requires coverage across both campuses and may involve regular presence at each campus.
Support the Trip Safety Manager in the following:
Monitor trip requests in CIMS and collaborate with trip leaders on all the stages of the trip planning process as needed. This includes risk assessment, budgeting, procurement processes and other preparations.
Where necessary, flag any areas of concern to the Trip Safety Manager, relevant Principal or operational department head as appropriate to ensure that all trips are managed safely and inline with College policies and processes.
Ensure that the College’s policies and processes on trip management are current and effective.
Develop, maintain and deliver effective training programmes for trip leaders for overseas and local trips to cover all aspects of trip planning, risk assessment, execution and reflection.
Liaise with our travel emergency response provider and insurers where necessary, to ensure that effective support processes are in place to respond to trip incidents.
Support trip leaders and the procurement team to liaise with relevant third party providers to ensure that all our safeguarding, health and safety and fiduciary concerns are complied with.
Review trip incident, accident and near miss reports with a view to identifying areas for improvement in trip management.
Expected to travel as needed to accompany and support the running of the trip such as to conduct site visits and risk assessment of external sites, providers and locations that will be visited by students and staff, through a mixture of physical and virtual visits as appropriate. Train other staff to conduct visits as appropriate
Undertake any other duties, tasks, or responsibilities commensurate with the scope and level of the role, as may reasonably be required by the line manager and/or the College.
Diploma / Degree in relevant subjects with an outdoor education element or a similar set of qualifications, and with experiences in expedition and outdoor activities/ programme
Standard First Aid (Wilderness First Aid trained or similar would be advantageous)
Minimum 3-5 years experience in running and leading expeditions that involve a high degree of adventurous activity (in an K-12 educational context would be advantageous)
Candidates holding a diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience will also be considered for the Trip Safety Specialist position.
Candidates with relevant outdoor experience but with lesser years of experience are also welcome to apply.
Familiarity with risk assessment of trips (health, safety, financial risks), site visits (location, logistics, activities) and external/ third party vendor assessment
Proficient with technology - Google platforms, Gmail and Google calendar and a working knowledge of Mac
