Job description

The therapy assistant (TA) is expected to support the speech therapists (ST) on assigned tasks deemed as appropriate. The tasks assigned are within limits of what they have been trained and deemed competent to perform as defined by the department/institution.

Job Responsibilities
  • Preparation of therapy session including setting up environment clinical equipment/resources, cleaning of used equipment/resources etc.
  • Assist in preparing patient(s) before, during and after session
  • Assist in implementing therapy tasks under the supervision of a ST
  • Assist in caregiver training
  • Provide feedback to primary ST on patient’s progression with assigned therapy tasks
  • Ensure safety of patient and implement appropriate safety precautions
  • Adhere to infection control protocols
  • Check and maintain equipment and inventory
  • Adhere to hospital and department’s policies and operating guidelines
  • Other administrative duties as deemed appropriate by the department or supervising Therapist
Requirements
Competency
  • Conversant in English
  • Basic proficiency in IT skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
