This role works closely with internal designers and external vendors to enable design that’s currently not achievable in the existing supply chain. You will be involved in developing algorithms for equipment and processes to convert an idea in the lab to a mass‑produced part.

Description

This role requires close collaboration with external vendors, contract manufacturers, and internal teams (design, operation, and so on) to test solutions for a new optical module from engineering to mass‑production phases. Typically, the test solution consists of equipment and a sequence recipe for deployment at the contract manufacturer site. The test engineer is responsible for designing equipment and developing a figure of merit that provides feedback for the manufacturing process and module design.

Responsibilities

• Participate in cross‑functional group discussions for active alignment, test, and characterization of photonics products such as structured light projectors, lenses, or light sources.
• Derive an evaluation/test plan for characterizing optical components, modules, or systems.
• Propose and develop figures of merit to support the above activities.
• Set up and calibrate test solution hardware and software.
• Provide signal/image processing service to other teams.
• Perform experiments and analyze data using statistical analysis tools.
• Participate in optical component design and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials, or equivalent.
• Minimum three years of experience developing test solutions for the manufacturing of optical components or modules.
• Experience with experimental setups (hardware + software) for optical testing.
• Experience building experimental setups for photonics/optical characterization.
• Clear and effective communication skills (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed to operate lasers (e.g., Singapore NEA N3 license).
• Experience/expertise in either (1) optics attach (active alignment) process or (2) optical functionality testing of optical devices (for example cameras, projectors, range finders, flashlights, proximity sensors, etc.).
• Expertise in (1) geometric optics and (2) exposure/understanding of compact optical modules (such as cameras, proximity, and depth sensors).
