Teaching Associate (Engineering Math)

Candidate will assist faculty in Engineering Maths teaching or teaching-related duties, including but not limited to the conducting of tutorial lessons, developing teaching materials, grading assignments and providing formative feedback to students in their learning. He/She will also be required to assist the School in administrative work, as assigned during the term breaks. The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences is committed to promoting gender diversity. In particular, we are looking for candidates who are able to inspire women undergraduate students to seriously consider careers in engineering mathematics, and related professions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and guide tutorial lessons, problem solving or laboratory sessions for Engineering Mathematics and related courses, including other service courses to the university.
  • Evaluate and grade assignments/tests and record grades.
  • Assist in the invigilation of examinations/test.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to student.
  • Assist in course/class administration and other administration work supporting the Academic Team in the Chair’s Office such as exam script checking, conducting and coordinating invigilations, facilities booking and other academic support duties outreach for the division/school both during semester and non-semester period
  • Assist in the design and development of instructional and teaching materials, such as syllabi, visual aids, answer keys, supplementary notes, or course Web sites. Adopt available technology-based learning materials where relevant.
Competencies and Qualification Requirements
  • At least an Honours with Distinction or Second Upper Honours (or equivalent) degree in Mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Some teaching experience will be desirable but not required.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills.
  • Have a passion for teaching.
