Job summary

The Perse School Singapore is seeking a dynamic Teacher of Physics to join our expanding Senior School. The successful candidate will deliver engaging Physics lessons across Years 5 to 10 and support IGCSE preparation, while helping establish the Science Department.

In addition to teaching, the role includes Form Tutor duties, pastoral care, contribution to extracurricular science clubs, and potential to teach a second science subject up to Key Stage 3 or 4.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years of teaching experience in an international school.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Education with a recognised teaching qualification (PGDE/PGCE/NIE Diploma) or teacher licence.
• Strong knowledge and experience in delivering the science curriculum.
• Experience with EAL learners and language acquisition in Science.
• Experience teaching Physics to ages 10–16 and preparing for IGCSE.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a rigorous Physics curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum.
• Teach Physics across year 6 to IGCSE, with potential to teach a second science subject up to Key Stage 3/4.

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable Teacher of Physics to join our expanding Senior School. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping to establish the Science Department, initially delivering engaging lessons in Physics in Years 5 to 10, growing through to Year 11. Ideally, applicants will have the ability to teach a second scientific subject up to Key Stage 3 or beyond.

The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of the Cambridge International Science Curriculum, ensuring students are well-prepared for IGCSE Physics and related examinations. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will serve as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and fostering students' personal growth. They will also contribute to the school's extracurricular programme, engaging students in science-related activities, clubs, and competitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a rigorous and engaging Physics curriculum, in line with the Cambridge International Curriculum and The Perse School ethos.


• Teach Physics across age range from year 6 through to IGCSE,, inspiring curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students.


• Support students in preparing for IGCSE Physics, for first examination in May/June 2027, delivering a well-structured and challenging course.


• Develop and implement lesson plans, learning materials and assessments that cater to varying levels of language proficiency.


• Regularly provide formative and summative assessments to monitor students' progress.


• Teach a second scientific subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, or Computer Science) up to Key Stage 3 or 4,where applicable.


• Provide guidance and support as a Form Tutor, promoting students' personal and social development.


• Establish positive relationships with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress and addressing any concerns.


• Incorporate innovative teaching strategies and technology to enhance the science learning experience.


• Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment, catering to diverse learning needs, including EAL learners.


• Contribute to the extracurricular programme by leading science-related clubs, STEM projects, and competitions.


• Engage in professional development and mentor colleagues to promote best practices in science education.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum four (4) years of teaching experience within an international school environment.


• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, together with a recognised professional teaching qualification (e.g., PGDE, PGCE, PGCEi, NIE Diploma) or a valid Teacher Licence / QTS.


• Strong knowledge and experience in delivering the science curriculum.


• Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver inquiry-based and concept-driven learning effectively.


• Experience working with EAL learners, with the ability to incorporate strategies that support language acquisition in Science.


• Proven capability in curriculum development, including experience in developing curriculum frameworks and/or leading a team.


• Strong subject knowledge in Physics and effective teaching strategies to support diverse learners.


• Experience teaching Physics to students aged 10-16, with familiarity in preparing students for IGCSE or equivalent examinations.
