About the role

The EAL Teacher (Elementary) plays a central role in supporting multilingual learners to develop English proficiency and achieve academic success across the curriculum. While the scope of the position for AY2026 remains consistent with the current role, it operates within the evolving Integrated Services Department (including EAL, Learning Support, and Counseling), requiring a flexible, growth-oriented mindset focused on collaboration, co-planning, and adaptive service delivery.

This position contributes to a schoolwide vision of tiered, student-centered support, where EAL specialists partner with teachers, leaders, and the wider Integrated Services team to enhance equitable learning for all students.

Position Requirements
  • Minimum 12 years of classroom teaching experience in EAL or multilingual contexts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language acquisition theory, assessment, and curriculum design.
  • IB PYP experience or understanding of inquiry-based learning strongly preferred.
  • Experience co-teaching in inclusive classrooms.
  • Proficiency with data systems (e.g., WIDA, MAP, Google Workspace) and digital instructional tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrates SAIS Values — Integrity, Courage, Ingenuity, and Compassion
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education or Linguistics with a recognized EAL/TESOL qualification.
  • Master’s degree in Education, TESOL, or Applied Linguistics preferred.
  • Additional qualifications/endorsements for working with English Language Learners, from an accredited school is required.
  • WIDA Training is preferred
  • SIOP Training is preferred
