Job summary

GovTech Singapore is looking for a Senior / Systems Engineer to develop and maintain the Open Digital Platform (ODP), ensuring seamless integration between enterprise applications and operational technology.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for software development, platform integration, and ensuring platform reliability. Qualifications include a degree in Computer Science and at least 2 years of backend software engineering experience, especially in Java and Spring Boot.

Senior / Systems Engineer

We are seeking a Senior / Systems Engineer to develop and maintain the Open Digital Platform (ODP), enabling seamless integration between enterprise applications, smart building systems, and operational technology (OT). The successful candidate will design scalable middleware services, APIs, messaging infrastructure, and telemetry pipelines while ensuring platform reliability, security and maintainability.

Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and microservices.
• Develop middleware integrating enterprise and OT systems.
• Build scalable REST APIs and event‑driven services.
• Develop reusable integration components.
• Participate in architecture and code reviews.

Platform Integration

• Design and maintain ODP integration services.
• Develop protocol adapters for REST APIs, MQTT, OPC UA, BACnet, RabbitMQ/AMQP and Modbus.
• Develop data transformation, validation and routing services.

Messaging & Event Processing

• Design event‑driven architectures.
• Implement asynchronous workflows.
• Implement retries, fault handling and message reliability.

Platform Reliability

• Develop monitoring and observability.
• Troubleshoot distributed services.
• Support production incidents and root cause analysis.
• Improve scalability and performance.

DevOps & Deployment

• Develop Dockerised applications.
• Support Kubernetes deployments.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage software releases.

Technical Documentation

• Produce software design documents.
• Maintain API documentation.
• Maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
• Produce operational runbooks.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years backend software engineering experience.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience.
• Experience working with RabbitMQ.
• Experience working with containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker) and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes).
• Linux development experience.
• Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience working with various communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, BACnet, OPC‑UA, MQTT, REST API).

Good‑to‑haves

• Experience with PLCs / IIoT.
• Experience with cloud technologies (e.g. Azure, AWS).
