Job Function: Risk & Performance Management Department

Job Type: Permanent

Risk and Performance Management Department

The Risk and Performance Management Department (RPMD) is responsible for the independent assessment, measurement, monitoring and reporting of GIC’s investment, credit and operational risk profiles. We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated candidate to join the Enterprise Risk and Performance team (ERP).

The ERP team is responsible for providing an independent and objective view of the investment risk and performance drivers of the total portfolio, including all other activities outside of active strategies. In addition, ERP provides oversight for leverage and liquidity risk at the total portfolio.

These are in support of the following key mandates:
  • Support the CRO in risk oversight and ensure that risk is identified, authorized and where relevant compensated at the total portfolio.
  • Aggregate risks across different components of the portfolio, to facilitate a clear understanding of how various investment actions influence the risk and return of the total portfolio.
  • Support the GCIO in managing the total portfolio, specifically identifying portfolio concentrations and avoid losses and/or structural impairment beyond established risk appetite, on order to allow the total portfolio to achieve its long-term return objective.
  • Ensure proper and thorough risk governance of activities for the total portfolio.
Responsibility to provide leadership to the following teams:
  • A team of risk managers focused on total portfolio, and corporate strategies who:
  • Design performance and risk methodologies and build quantitative tools at the product and portfolio level.
  • Provide independent performance analysis and assessment, risk identification and analysis, model risk quantification, stress testing, etc.
  • Assess and guide the approval of new product and models, strategy mandate and guidelines.
  • Contribute significantly to hedging proposals, allocation decisions, and investment initiatives at key business and risk meetings and committees.
  • Manages omega activities such as managing asset and FX rebalancing flows and ensuring sufficient liquidity.
  • Manages client requests such as new investment initiatives and client injections and withdrawals.
  • A team of product managers, risk quants, focused on driving the strategic buildout of total portfolio risk analytics product who:
  • Coordinate between the asset allocators, top-down and bottom-up investment risk managers to research, develop and prioritise new methodologies and risk analytics.
  • Rollout best-in-class capabilities to ensure that timely, detailed and comprehensive risk information is delivered to stakeholders as part of RPMD’s risk capability building and business transformation, and GIC’s data modernization efforts.
  • A team of climate risk managers, who are focused on the impact of climate change on the total portfolio who:
  • Estimate the top-down and bottom-up impact of climate change across a range of asset classes and scenarios, based on informed views of long-term sustainability trends, data and quantitative modelling.
  • Assess the methodological rigor and scope of various external vendor models, across transition and physical risk, ensuring relevance and applicability to the total portfolio.
  • Enhance and develop relevant climate change metrics, across the total portfolio and work with the sustainability office to integrate it into front office investment processes.

As part of the senior leadership, you will also be an important participant in significant management committees at the GIC level.

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in Front office (portfolio management, trading) and/or senior Risk Management roles within financial institutions.
  • Proven experience in making decisions, leading consensus building, negotiating and executing critical initiatives. Have demonstrated ability to drive accountability and results.
  • Strong quantitative background on statistical and risk modelling, portfolio construction and product valuation.
  • Strong market and product knowledge, with demonstrated ability to be multi-asset class.
  • Strong appreciation and conviction in the importance of risk considerations in business decisions.
  • Strong intellectual ability to handle the conceptual demands spanning information granularity at instrument/deal level to complexities at total portfolio level.
  • Demonstrated experience, ability and versatility to manage a large diverse team of financial professionals across a broad range of specialization.
  • Ability to drive systems and technology development and innovation, and work with technology and technical specialists in execution.
