Job Title: Staff Scientist, Field Applications Bioinformatics Support

Location: Singapore.

Years of Experience: 10

Monthly Salary Range: SGD 9,000 and SGD 16,000 per month

PacBio is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with a strong customer focus to support bioinformatics analysis for collaborators and customers using SMRT sequencing data. The candidate will employ expertise in bioinformatics, data analysis, biological insight, and software engineering. The ability to communicate with customers both pre‑ and post‑sales; interact with marketing; internal support and development; and communicate results to diverse audiences are important aspects of this role. This scientist will be working in a fast‑paced environment, interacting with customers, other scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds. This individual is a partner to the customer in the understanding and analysis of data derived through use of next‑generation high throughput sequencing systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist customers in experimental design and subsequent workflow setup, integrating the use of the PacBio instrumentation in their laboratories.
  • Problem‑solve to overcome technical challenges (including Linux operation, PacBio analysis software, and operation of bioinformatics analysis pipelines).
  • Utilize both PacBio tools and open‑source academic tools to help analyze customer data from HiFi sequencing experiments.
  • Provide timely technical and application assistance in response to customer inquiries.
  • Provide feedback to development, marketing, and sales and be a part of improving informatics pipelines and solutions.
  • Work with R&D teams to continually improve the bioinformatics capabilities and workflows associated with PacBio data to support use of the platform.
  • Develop a bioinformatics training plan, presentation materials, and technical documentation.
  • Conduct scientific presentations and hands‑on workshops to internal and external audiences.
  • Customer‑minded individual with the empathy to understand customer concerns.
  • Team player who can effectively use PacBio’s regional and global functions to support customers.
  • Develop bioinformatics related sales tools such as application notes and white papers.
  • Participate in publishing novel bioinformatic results in scientific journals.
Required Qualifications:
  • A PhD in a scientific discipline, or Masters with a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • A degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Life science, and/or computer science.
  • 8+ years’ experience in bioinformatics dealing with long read sequencing data.
  • Familiar with long read sequencing data analysis in genomic and transcriptomic applications such as genome assembly, variant, epigenetic analysis, metagenomic and transcript isoform analysis.
  • Familiar with workflow management systems (e.g., WDL, Nextflow), high‑performance computing, and cloud platforms (e.g., Slurm, AWS Cloud).
  • Proficiency with a scripting language such as Perl or Python is required.
  • Familiarity with common sequence analysis tools and workflows such as sequence alignment, genome visualization, comparative genomics, structural variation discovery, and epigenetics.
  • Intermediate level of experience in Unix operating systems.
  • Strong trouble‑shooting abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including team collaboration, presentation, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both, independently, and collaboratively in a team.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.
