Job summary

NHG Health is seeking a Hospital Linen Attendant to support daily operations across inpatient, outpatient and offsite services. You will collect soiled linen, coordinate with laundry vendors, and ensure accurate distribution to wards according to pre-determined quantities.

You will manage curtains, uniforms, and special items, perform quality checks on linen, and assist with inventory and routine housekeeping while adhering to infection control guidelines.

Job description

Reports to the Assistant Supervisor / Supervisor and ensure smooth daily operations as follows:

• Ensure prompt collection of soiled linen from end users and sent to laundry vendor for washing for inpatient / outpatient / offsite
• Responsible for the receiving and distribution of clean linen from the laundry vendor to end users according to their pre-determined quantity requirements for inpatient / outpatient / offsite
• Responsible for the preparation of curtains in accordance to the curtain schedule and any other ad-hoc curtain change request
• Responsible for the receiving and distribution of special items from the laundry vendor to end users and vice versa
• Manage uniform room and assist with the issuance of uniforms for existing staff and new hires
• Conduct daily random quality checks on the clean linen received from the laundry vendor and ensure defective linen are not circulated/issued and utilized

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SPECIFIC

INPATIENT / OUTPATIENT / OFFSITE

• Perform soiled linen collection chuted down through the pneumatic chute and manual collection from the soiled linen bay
• Transfer soiled linen from the soiled linen chute collection area to the loading bay
• Identify and segregate the different types of linen used in mTTSH, NCID, AMK Rehab and ICH, ensuring the correct linen is supplied to the end users
• Prepare, pack and deliver linen supplies to the departments as per their pre-determined quantity requirements
• Perform linen distribution via the AGV system, as well as by manual top-up process
• Sort all incoming linen and arrange the linen into the AGV and shelves according to their specific allocations

CURTAINS

• Assist Supervisor in the management of curtain inventory
• Track movement of curtains to wards and laundry vendor
• Assist Supervisor in planning the curtain schedule and ensure curtains for inpatient and outpatient are changed according to the schedule
• Assist with ad-hoc requests such as terminal cleaning or curtain track maintenance and make revisions to the curtain schedule

SPECIAL ITEMS

• Keep track and ensure that all special items that are collected and returned are accounted for with documentation
• Receive and validate clean special items from the laundry vendor
• Pack the special items in an organized manner for the collection by end users

UNIFORMS

• Identify and segregate uniforms used by various stakeholders
• Manage the uniform store and ensure it is neat and organized
• Assist Supervisor in the planning and execution of uniform issuance to end users (new hires / annual issuance)
• Ensure quality control in the uniforms issued to end users
• Assist with the administration and inventory tracking of the uniforms
• Support and provide recommendations on the procurement of uniforms

MENDING

• Sieve out defective linen for mending services
• Assist to mend defective linen using sewing machine when required

GENERAL

• Assist and liaise with end users on ad-hoc requests according to documented quality procedures and work instructions
• Assist the Supervisor in inventory count when required
• Facilitate physical disposal for the condemned linen
• Do daily housekeeping within the department and adhere to infection control guidelines
• Ensure common corridors and various emergency exits are not blocked or hindered and adhere to all fire safety measures
• Actively participate as a member or team lead for quality improvement projects at hospital-wide / department level
• Any other duties or projects as assigned by Assistant Supervisor / Supervisor / Senior Executive / Senior Manager / Manager / Director, Hospitality & Environmental Services
