Overview

The Senior Epidemiologist / Epidemiologist will work closely with the NCID Epidemiology and Data Unit and other professionals at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (including clinicians, scientists, statistician and researchers), to develop and drive projects for infectious disease surveillance, prevention and control, and to support NCID’s purpose to protect the people of Singapore from infectious diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Perform literature review, horizon scanning and risk assessments of infectious agents which pose potential public health threats to Singapore; and provide timely updates to clinicians and healthcare professionals periodically.
  • Design and conduct epidemiological studies, including clinical surveillance of infectious diseases and analysis of health services data, to support clinical and operational decision making and resource management. Leverage on artificial intelligence (AI) tools and techniques to improve information creation and knowledge transfer.
  • During outbreaks or public health emergencies, to characterise epidemiological features of pathogen, protective/risk factors, clinical and non-clinical outcomes (e.g. morbidity, mortality, health services utilisation, etc.) to inform the public health response or government policy and support resource planning.
  • Mentor and supervise junior epidemiologists and data analysts to design studies, as well as interface with clinicians, statisticians, analysts and researchers on projects.
  • Conduct research that would lead to publication in peer-reviewed journals as appropriate. Participate actively as a member or team lead for quality improvement projects at the centre or Unit level.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the supervisor and as required by the Executive Director of NCID and the Infectious Diseases Department.
  • It should be noted that the work of the Unit is of a confidential nature and must not be communicated to other persons except when required for authorised purposes.
Job Requirements
  • Candidate must possess at least a good Master\'s Degree, or Doctorate (PhD) from a reputable academic institution in Epidemiology, Public Health or Data Science.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Astute critical thinking skills and ability to quickly learn new techniques.
  • Proficient in at least one statistical software package.
  • Experience in report writing, manuscript preparation and publication.
  • Ability to exercise patience, communicate effectively with others, possess good interpersonal skills; work independently and with teams, and under a variety of conditions.
