Job summary

Job Purpose:

You shall be responsible for the speech language programme for students &/or trainees with oral communication challenges including evaluation of all students &/or trainees with suspected or identified communication disorders and the development, management and coordination of a speech and language programme, including difficulty in swallowing.

Key Responsibilities:

Consultation

  • Provide professional inputs to support understanding of clients’ speech, language and communication difficulties to teachers, parents/caregivers, professional staff, administrators and the public.
  • Participate in collaborative problem-solving to assist teachers, parents / caregivers, professional staff and administrators with practical ideas and recommendations in the setting of goals, selection and design of intervention programs, etc.

Assessment

  • Provide screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services for students/trainees with speech and language disorders.
  • Measure outcomes of treatment and conduct continuous evaluation
  • Identify effective practices and programs to improve and enhance quality of services.
  • Able to apply formal and informal modes of assessment.
  • Maintain efficient client records and documentation. i.e. Assessment reports filing in students’ confidential file.

Treatment Strategies

  • Implement intervention program based on assessment, interpretation and planning.

Discharge Planning

  • The Speech and Language Therapists should write a discharge based on the following:
  • Documented evidence showing that the student has achieved all the objectives or the students can no longer benefit from the therapy.
  • The student to be discharge from therapy services if he/she leaves the school.
  • Recommend other services, if applicable to the student and other family members.
  • Refer and write a discharge summary, if necessary, when the student is going to another service or an APSN School.

Training and Support

  • Train and support teachers, caregivers and other communication partners of individuals with speech, language, communication difficulties.
  • Mentor and supervise of support personnel.
Job Requirements:
  • Recognized Degree in Speech Pathology from accredited college / university with 3 to 5 years speech therapy experience
  • Good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Relevant work experience ranging from children to young adults with intellectual disability would be an advantage
  • Ability to work with independently and with minimum supervision
  • Valid practising certificate with Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC)
