Roles and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with teammates, other teams within Illumina, and with external collaborators and partners to apply novel genomic data sets and tools to population genomics, personalized medicine, and other emerging applications.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of our tools to better allow the use of large genomic data sets in these emerging applications.
- Work with Illumina software engineering colleagues to deploy these techniques to internal and external users on a cloud‑deployed platform.
- Contribute to pilot studies with partners.
- Communicate effectively across the research and informatics organizations.
- Learn and have fun!
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, ideally in Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Science or Engineering.
- Competent in at least one software programming language, preferably Python (or R) for data analysis and visualization.
- Passion for technology, healthcare, and personalized medicine.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (English – both oral and written) skills, along with the ability to communicate appropriately and confidently with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and seniority levels.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑motivated, resourceful and proactive.
- Curious and observative, in order to rapidly comprehend the research and development environment to deliver fit for purpose results to the project team.
- Experience with standard bioinformatics tools for Next‑Generation sequencing analysis is preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud computing is preferred.
