Job summary

Sephora SEA is seeking a Software Engineer (User) to design and develop backend services for a scalable distributed system. You will contribute to a reliable, personalized experience for Sephora's 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania via ecommerce platforms.

You will report to the Engineering Manager and work on high-visibility projects that directly impact customer lifetime value.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience building production-grade backend applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Strong proficiency with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem: Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, Gradle.
• Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka) and/or message queuing (RabbitMQ).
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot).
• Familiarity with cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as VueJS or NuxtJS is a strong plus.

Software Engineer (User)

As a Software Engineer that is part of the User Squad, you will participate in the design and development of backend systems and services, contributing to clean and scalable distributed architectures as the company grows. You will help deliver a reliable and personalised experience to Sephora’s 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania via our Ecommerce platforms.

This role reports to our Engineering Manager, and you will work on high-visibility projects that directly impact customer lifetime value – our core KPI.

We would love to hear from you if you are/have…

• 3+ years of professional experience building production-grade backend applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot
• Strong proficiency with relational and non-relational databases, including PostgreSQL/MySQL and MongoDB
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem: Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, and Gradle
• Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka) and/or message queuing systems (RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity and code quality
• Familiarity with structured AI-assisted development practices
• Familiarity working in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as VueJS or NuxtJS is a strong plus
