Job summary

An organization supporting individuals with disabilities in Singapore is seeking a Social Worker to provide case work and counselling services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for networking with agencies, participating in public education, and providing administrative support. A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and relevant skills are required. This position offers opportunities for professional growth and support of the organization's objectives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience as a Social Worker or fresh graduate.
  • Fresh graduates must apply for accreditation with Singapore Association of Social Workers within 12 months.
  • Has empathy and a sense of compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake social case work and provide individual and family counselling as a member of the rehabilitation team.

  • Participate in caregivers’ support work activities and public education.

Job description
RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Undertake social case work and provide individual and family counselling as a member of the rehabilitation team.
    • a. Responsible for assigned casework, counselling work, family work and social group work to clients and their caregivers.
    • b. Work as a multi-disciplinary team member with the staff and Therapy Rehabilitation Centre to deliver total care and effective services.
    • c. Conduct initial screening of referred clients, provide on-going assessment of the clients.
    • d. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conference.
    • e. Participate in the related working committees and projects:
      • Programme Sub-Committee.
      • Other Sub-committees or Projects as directed by the Head of Social Work department.
  2. 2. Network with other agencies or community groups
    • a. Assist to network with other organizations to mobilize resources in meeting needs of clients that includes making applications for financial and non-financial assistance such as transport/equipment subsidies, institutional care, educational facilities and job placements.
    • b. Assist the clients to transit from one programme into another programme to meet their developmental needs in different life stages.
  3. 3. Participate in caregivers’ support work activities and public education.
    • a. Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of group work. Assist in therapeutic group work.
    • b. Assist in providing necessary training and supervision to social work related activities.
    • c. Participate in public educational talks and presentations to promote better understanding and management of people with disabilities.
  4. 4. Provide administrative support to the department.
    • a. Document all work intervention/activities and maintain a database of clients’ record.
    • b. Provide information and necessary reports to the various management committees.
    • c. Assist in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of services rendered.
  5. 5. Undertake relevant duties as assigned by staff-in-charge.
    • a. Participate in developmental programmes and supervision for personal and professional growth and development.
    • b. Support the objectives and work of the Association.
    • c. Keep abreast of current research and trends and assist in relevant research projects.
    • d. Maintain a high level of ethical standards and professionalism.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from a Recognized University
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience as a Social Worker or fresh graduate.
  • For fresh graduate, to apply for accreditation with Singapore Association of Social Workers for professional practice within 12 months of graduation.
  • Listening and Communication skills, Counseling skills and Organizational skills. Has empathy and a sense of compassion. Be able to advocate for clients and caregivers. Skills to do simple assessment of family needs. Skills to collaborate and network with internal and external recourses.
