Responsibilities

About Us: The Children and Youth Group (CYG) in The Salvation Army Singapore serves hundreds of vulnerable children and youth yearly. Our services span preventive services, foster care, residential services, and reunification support for children returning to their natural families after safety concerns. We believe every child is precious and can thrive with family support. Kids In Play provides professional support to address the impact of parental incarceration on children and caregivers, strengthens family bonds, and facilitates reintegration of incarcerated persons with their families.

About the job: As a Social Worker at Kids In Play, you provide social work services and therapeutic interventions to children, their caregivers, and incarcerated parents. You will work with the Kids In Play staff team to deliver group work and family bonding programmes for registered families.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Casework Management: Register and orientate new families through intake; provide information and referral services.
  • Provide casework and counselling through home visits and prison visits as part of the intervention plan; meet children and caregivers in their family contexts, and inmates inside prisons for intervention work. Render aftercare services to inmates after release to aid reintegration with their children and families.
  • Utilise therapeutic approaches and intervention strategies with children, caregivers, parents, couples and families.
  • Respond to crisis situations and recommend appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Participate in and/or conduct case conferences and collaborate with other professionals to render help to families.
  • Keep and maintain up-to-date reports, statistics, records, and case reviews.
  • Volunteer Training: Screen, recruit, train and develop volunteers; brief and de-brief volunteers regularly as part of training.
  • Group Work: Plan and facilitate group work sessions for children and youth; plan and facilitate caregiver support groups; plan and execute parent training and other workshops, including sessions for incarcerated parents.
  • Programme Planning: Plan and execute programmes for children, youth and families aligned with our centre’s vision; conduct reviews and evaluations to inform future programmes.
  • Prison Playroom: Register children in the Playroom at the Prison Link Centre in Changi; manage and maintain the Playroom; build rapport with visiting children and caregivers; provide information as part of The Salvation Army-Kids In Play outreach to children with incarcerated parents.
  • Community Work: Collate and analyse needs of our target population; assess and bridge gaps between stakeholders and beneficiaries; collaborate with community stakeholders to achieve the vision.
  • Administration: Ensure efficient resource use and operate within approved budgets for all programmes and services; undertake other administrative duties as required by management.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Social Work from a recognisable university
  • Accredited as Registered Social Worker with SASW
  • 1–2 years direct social work experience preferred
  • Experience working with children, youths and their families

Other Information

Duty Hours: Total 44 hours per week. Typical hours: 9am–6pm, Monday–Friday (1 hour lunch). Weekday evenings and Saturdays are usually non-working hours but may be required by operational needs; determined by CYG on service exigencies.
