Responsibilities

About the job

As a Social Worker at Kids In Play, you are expected to provide social work services and therapeutic interventions to children, their care-givers and incarcerated parents. You are also expected to work in tandem with the Kids In Play staff team in delivering group work and family bonding programmes to families registered on the programme.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Casework Management:
    • Register and orientate new families through the intake process, and provide information and referral services.
    • Provide casework and counselling services through home visits and prison visits as part of the intervention plan. This includes meeting children and their care-givers in their family contexts, and inmates inside prisons for the purpose of intervention work. Aftercare services are also to be rendered to inmates after release from prison with the purpose of reintegration and reunification with their children and families.
    • Able to utilize therapeutic approaches and intervention strategies in working with children, caregivers, parents, couples and families.
    • Respond appropriately to crisis situations and recommend relevant intervention strategies.
    • When appropriate, participate in and/or conduct case conferences and work with other professionals in rendering help to families.
    • Keep and maintain up-to-date reports, statistics, records, and case reviews.
  • Volunteer Training:
    • Screen, recruit, train and develop volunteers for programmes as required.
    • Brief and de-brief volunteers regularly as part of training and equipping volunteers.
  • Group Work:
    • Plan and facilitate group work sessions for children and youth.
    • Plan and facilitate caregiver support groups.
    • Plan and execute parent training, and other workshops, including sessions held for incarcerated parents.
  • Programme Planning:
    • Plan and execute programmes and activities for children, youth and families that are aligned with the vision and mission of the centre.
    • Conduct review and evaluation of programmes which serves as a resource for fine-tuning future runs of the programmes.
  • Prison Playroom:
    • Registration of children in the Playroom located at the Prison Link Centre in Changi.
    • Manage and maintain the Playroom in good condition.
    • Build rapport with visiting children and their caregivers.
    • Provide information as part of The Salvation Army-Kids In Play outreach programme to children with incarcerated parents.
  • Community Work:
    • Collate and analyze needs of our target population of clients.
    • Assess and bridge the gap between stakeholders and beneficiaries.
    • Work with various stakeholders in the community to achieve the vision.
  • Administration
    • Ensure efficient use of resources and work within approved budgets for all programs and services.
    • Undertake any other administrative duties as may reasonably be required of you by the management team.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Social Work from a recognisable university
  • Accredited as Registered Social Worker with SASW.
  • At least 1-2 years in direct social work is preferred.
  • Experience in working with children and youths and their families

Other Information

Duty Hours

Total work hours is 44 hours per week.

Under normal circumstances the hours of duty will be as follows:

  • 9am to 6pm (Monday - Friday, 1 hour lunch)

Weekday evenings and Saturdays are usually designated non-working hours, but this is subject to the operational and programme needs of KIP and shall be determined by CYG on exigencies of services rendered to clients.
