Role Summary
A specialized professional who installs, maintains, and repairs complex Systems & Instrumentation equipment on-site at customer locations, often in industries like oil and gas or power generation. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software, providing technical support to customers, ensuring safety, and completing detailed service reports. The candidates typically need an engineering degree or equivalent experience in instrumentation/process control and control systems.
Essential Responsibilities
- Installation and commissioning: Setting up new hardware and software systems for clients.
- Maintenance and repair: Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting to keep equipment running efficiently.
- Technical support: Providing expert assistance to customers on-site and explaining technical information clearly.
- Safety and compliance: Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations during on-site work.
- Documentation: Creating detailed reports on services performed, including any parts or procedures used.
- Customer relations: Acting as the company's representative to build and maintain positive customer relationships.
Requirements
- Engineering (Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Instrumentation) is preferred.
- Experience: Relevant experience in the Energy, Oil & Gas, or Petrochemicals industries is required. Experienced with DCS/ Control systems and industrial networking, or with specific Bently Nevada product lines (e.g., 3500, Orbit 60, System 1), are highly desirable.
Key Technical Skills
- Troubleshooting: Strong electronic and/or mechanical troubleshooting skills are essential.
- Hardware & Software: Knowledge of Bently Nevada vibration monitoring systems and condition monitoring software (e.g., System 1 Classic/EVO) is an added advantage.
- Protocols & Networking: Familiarity with Modbus, OPC, networking, and serial communications protocols is expected.
- Control Systems: Experience with control logic for gas/steam turbines, DCS (Distributed Control Systems), and SCADA is often desired.
General & Soft Skills
- Travel: This role requires a willingness and ability to travel frequently (often up to 70% of the time) to customer sites, sometimes on short notice (Jurong Island, Tuas, and Pulau Bukom).
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary for interfacing with customers and preparing documentation.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are critical for identifying and resolving complex technical issues.
- Independence: The ability to work efficiently without direct supervision and manage projects is important.
