Job summary

IRAS is seeking a Senior Legal Specialist to join the Law Division in Singapore. You will work on prosecutions and tax appeals, providing clear directions on investigations and representing IRAS in courts and tribunals.

Ideal candidates have at least 5 years PQE, a law degree and are called to the Singapore Bar, with strong writing, analytical skills and a commitment to public service. Opportunities for progression and rotation are available.

Qualifications

• Excellent law degree and called to the Singapore Bar.
• At least 5 years Post-Qualification Experience.
• Experience in prosecution or litigation is necessary.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Analytical, independent and self-motivated.
• Ability to consider issues from a systemic perspective.
• Desire to serve in public service and a team player.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear and effective directions on investigations and prosecutions and prosecute tax offences in the courts.
• Provide clear and effective legal advice on prosecution-related issues.
• Represent IRAS in tax appeals before tax tribunals and the courts; advise on income tax, GST, stamp duties, property tax and other taxes.
• Offer progression and rotation opportunities across legal functions.
• Report to the Chief Legal Officer and the Branch Director.
• Advisory & Litigation Branches 1 and 2 focus on rendering tax advice and representing IRAS in appeals.
• The Prosecution, Corporate & Legislation Branch focuses on prosecutions, corporate counsel work and drafting tax legislation.
