Job summary

GovTech Singapore is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer in Mobile Engineering to join the PG project, defining the mobile architecture and building the parent-facing experience.

You will collaborate with product managers, UX designers, education officers, backend engineers and fellow mobile engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance mobile solutions with automated testing and scalable release processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/SE or equivalent.
• Extensive experience building and operating production mobile apps.
• Proficiency in React Native or iOS/Swift or Android/Kotlin.
• Understanding of mobile architecture and maintainable app structure.
• Experience integrating with backend APIs, authentication services, push notifications.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, app signing, build pipelines and deployment.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools for mobile apps.
• Strong communication and collaboration with product/design/engineering teams.

[What you will be working on]

Parents Gateway (PG) is MOE’s key digital platform connecting schools and parents across Singapore. The platform consists of a parent-facing mobile application, a web platform for school staff, and the backend services and cloud infrastructure that power them. It supports key school-parent interactions such as announcements, consent forms, parent-teacher engagements and other services, with integrations across the wider MOE ecosystem.

We are entering the next phase of Parents Gateway, with an opportunity to rethink and rebuild the product for the years ahead.

As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer specialising in Mobile Engineering, you will join us at an exciting stage where we are building the next generation of the PG mobile experience largely from the ground up. Beyond building individual features and screens, you will help define the mobile architecture, engineering foundations and technical practices that allow the product to evolve sustainably.

Your Responsibilities Include

• Build the Next Generation of PG Mobile: Design and develop a high-quality mobile application that will form the parent-facing experience of the new Parents Gateway.
• Mobile Architecture & Technical Direction: Shape key architectural and technology decisions across application structure, state management, data flows, native capabilities and integrations, balancing performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Mobile Platform Engineering: Establish reusable foundations, components and engineering patterns that enable the team to build new capabilities consistently and efficiently.
• Performance & Reliability: Drive improvements in application startup, responsiveness, stability, crash rates, network resilience and overall mobile performance across a diverse range of devices.
• Mobile Delivery & Operations: Strengthen automated testing, build pipelines, release processes, observability and App Store/Google Play delivery to enable safe and frequent releases.
• Engineering Excellence: Raise the bar for mobile engineering through good software design, code and design reviews, technical standards and mentorship of other engineers.
• You will also work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Education Officers, backend engineers and fellow mobile engineers to translate real problems faced by parents into simple, accessible and reliable mobile experiences.

[What we are looking for]

We are looking for an experienced mobile engineer who thinks beyond individual screens and features and is comfortable taking technical ownership of a mobile application as a whole.

You Should Have

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating production mobile applications.
• Strong proficiency in modern mobile development, such as React Native, iOS/Swift, Android/Kotlin, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of mobile application architecture, software design and maintainable application structure.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with backend APIs, authentication services, push notifications and native device capabilities.
• Strong understanding of mobile performance, application lifecycle, networking, offline and error handling, and debugging production issues.
• Experience with automated testing, mobile CI/CD, application signing, build pipelines and App Store/Google Play release processes.
• Experience with mobile monitoring, analytics, crash reporting and observability tools.
• Ability to independently navigate ambiguous technical problems, evaluate alternatives and drive solutions from design through implementation.
• Experience contributing to technical direction, conducting meaningful code and design reviews, and mentoring other engineers.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with product, design and engineering teams.
