Job summary

A*STAR Research Entities' High Performance Computing group is seeking Research Scientists to push AI-HPC systems, AI for Science, and computing optimisation. The role offers opportunities to work on system-level software development, performance tuning, and integrating AI with scientific computing and simulation workflows on modern computing platforms.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Expertise in high-performance computing, parallel/distributed systems.
• Experience with performance optimisation and resource management, scheduling, or communication libraries (MPI/NCCL).
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python, and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Knowledge of ML systems, large AI models, AI agents, and efficient AI approaches.
• Background in scientific computing, numerical simulation, surrogate modelling, or AI for scientific applications.
• Experience in system software or workflow/platform development for large-scale computing.
• A demonstrated ability or strong potential to publish in top-tier conferences/journals.
• Good communication and ability to collaborate in an international research team.

Job description

The High Performance Computing group is seeking research scientists to join the group, focusing on AI-HPC systems, AI for Science, and computing system optimisation. The role offers opportunities to work on system-level software development, performance optimisation, and the integration of AI with scientific computing and simulation workflows on modern computing platforms.

The appointee will work on research areas such as optimising AI models and agents, modernising scientific modelling and simulation, AI-assisted system optimisation, application-HPC co-optimisation, and reusable software platforms for AI-HPC workloads. The appointee will collaborate closely with local and international research partners and is expected to contribute to high-impact research outcomes.

For the Research Scientist role, a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field is required.

1. High-performance computing, parallel or distributed systems
2. Performance optimisation, resource management, scheduling, or communication libraries (e.g., MPI/NCCL)
3. Programming in C/C++ and Python, and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch
