Job summary

A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop, integrate, commission and maintain software for industrial automation and robotic systems. The role covers PLC programming, system design, GUI/HMI, robotic integration, machine vision and sensor/actuator integration using Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, REST API and serial interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related engineering or computer science discipline.
• Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in software development or industrial automation.
• Strong experience in PLC programming and industrial automation and machine control.
• Proficient in Python, C#, C++, JavaScript or equivalent languages.
• Experience in system architecture and software design.
• Experience in GUI/HMI development.
• Experience integrating robots, PLCs, vision systems and industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET).
• Experience in software testing, debugging, commissioning, and system integration.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; able to lead projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, commission, and maintain software solutions for industrial automation and robotic systems.
• Design systems, software architecture, and GUI/HMI components; integrate sensors and automation equipment.
• Develop machine control sequences, interlocks, alarms, motion control, data acquisition and interfaces using common protocols.
• Support applications and integration software using Python, C#, C++, JavaScript and other languages.
• Conduct system testing, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and software upgrades.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, robotics and project teams to ensure robust, scalable architectures.

Role and responsibilities:

The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, integration, commissioning, and maintenance of software solutions for industrial automation and robotic systems. The role includes PLC programming, system design and software architecture, GUI and HMI development, robotic system integration, machine vision, and integration of sensors, actuators, instruments, and other automation equipment. The engineer will develop machine control sequences, interlocks, alarms, motion control, data acquisition, and communication interfaces using industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, REST API, and serial communication. The role will also support the development of applications and integration software using Python, C#, C++, JavaScript, Structured Text, or other suitable programming languages. Responsibilities include system testing, debugging, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, software upgrades, and ongoing support for existing systems. The engineer will work closely with mechanical, electrical, robotics, and project teams to establish robust and scalable system architectures, develop reusable software modules and standards, maintain technical documentation and version control, and support the efficient delivery of both existing and future automation projects.
