Purpose of the post

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow for the Metabolic Liver Disease Lab in the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. This role explores functional genomic methods to understand better the molecular mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction‑associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The Post Doc Scientist will have the opportunity to collaborate with various teams across the School of Medicine, including pathologists, hepatologists, and data scientists. The candidate should demonstrate technical experimental excellence as well as the capacity to lead the research team regarding research projects aimed at producing clinically translational applications.

Responsibilities
  • Assist PI in coordinating and leading multiple wet lab projects, proposing research directions and meeting key project milestones.
  • Assist PI to facilitate research team development, optimization, and validation of in vitro mammalian cell based assays that are related to metabolic diseases (such as cell culture, RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, western blotting and other metabolic‑related assays).
  • Perform other related duties, incidental to the work described herein (such as conduct data analysis, ensure the validity and reliability of data, maintain accurate and complete records of all findings, present findings to colleagues).
  • Assist PI with writing for ethics/grant application.
  • Assist PI with organizing and publishing findings in high impact academic journals of good reputation.
Qualifications
  • A PhD with 3 years relevant post‑doctoral experience.
  • Understanding of the molecular/cellular basis of MAFLD, obesity and T2D, e.g., lipid metabolism dysregulation, insulin resistance, inflammatory pathways is desired.
  • Experience in handling 2D and 3D cell cultures such as hepatocytes, adipocytes or skeletal muscle cells is essential.
  • Molecular Biology skills (RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, western blotting, IF) is essential.
  • Cell line and clinical data multi‑omics familiarity (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics analysis) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with gene perturbation tools, such as siRNA, shRNA and CRISPR/Cas9 is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with murine models is a strong plus.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Highly organized and skill in working independently and creatively to solve experimental problems within time constraints.
  • Ability to oversee research directions for multiple projects and work in a multidisciplinary team.
