Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in the Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Core Facility at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The SRF will identify emerging viral pathogens including SARS-CoV-2 and implement research projects within the BSL-3 Facility, leading independent research with career development opportunities.

The BSL-3 Core Facility is the largest research-focused biocontainment facility in Singapore, supporting research and diagnostic work involving risk group 3 (RG3) pathogens. It is equipped with advanced technology such as mouse biocontainment units, flow cytometers, aerosol inhalation machines, PET/CT imaging, etc. The facility welcomes researchers from NUS and other institutions to conduct RG3 research, and also supports the Singapore National Public Health Laboratory in pathogen surveillance and national preparedness.

Qualifications

• PhD in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Sciences, Virology or an equivalent degree.
• Minimum 3 years post‑doctoral research experience and a demonstrated ability to achieve research excellence, develop programmes and secure funding.

Requirements

• Provide scientific manpower support for in vitro and in vivo research on SARS‑CoV‑2 and other RG3 pathogens.
• Coordinate and perform COVID‑19 and other RG3 scientific research service support.
• Collaborate with PIs from various departments to develop new protocols, SOPs and risk assessments for BSL‑3 research.
• Work with NUHS/NUS Medicine Research Office and the BSL‑3 facility Scientific Manager to prioritize and execute relevant research activities.
• Maintain high scientific standards and compliance with all legal and NUS requirements.
• Support sample transfer, storage and inventory management for clinical samples from NUHS.
• Assist the BSL‑3 facility with research and training needs.
• Plan and conduct work and training activities, ensuring adequate staffing, time, space and equipment.
• Good publication record in international peer‑reviewed journals.
• Strong communication and writing skills in English.
• Team‑work ability and capacity for independent research.
• Prior experience in virology and molecular biology.
• Prior experience in small animal experimentation.
• Experience in BSL‑3 or animal BSL‑3 laboratories is an added advantage.
• Experience in conducting research projects, manpower and budget management is an added advantage.
• Ability to work in an environment with radioactive isotopes.
