Job description

Job purpose:

GM Research globally linked capital markets require an integrated analysis of various asset classes, Interest Rate, Commodities etc). Only an overall analysis of market correlations allows us to anticipate price movements resulting from capital flows. Our approach to research is therefore based on strong interaction between teams.

Key activities:

  • Largely independent preparation of targeted research and proactive research reports forming the basis of decisions of our institutional and corporate customers.
  • First establishment of close contact to key customers of the bank. Best possible evaluation from customers based on a very high quality of service (telephone conferences, meetings, individual reports etc.)
  • Establishment of a very close contact to the companies through positioning as independent and expert business partners. Generation of Corporate Roadshows.
  • Close cooperation with other bank-internal divisions on strategic questions and capital market transactions. Identification of business potential for the bank by continual monitoring of the sector.
  • Intensive marketing of research products to internal and external customers at home and abroad (analyst roadshows).
  • Intensive interaction with Sales and Trading

Formal education:

  • Graduate with an economic emphasis.
  • Post graduate education CFA, CIIA or CEFA desired

Specialist knowledge (work experience, further qualification):

Key requirements:

  • Strong experience as a China-focused economist or research analyst with a proven record in macroeconomic and policy analysis
  • Deep understanding of China’s economy, markets, and regulatory environment combined with a global and strategic outlook
  • Ability to interpret China’s policy directions and assess implications for international businesses and markets
  • Strong skills in data interpretation, report writing and economic modelling
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex insights clearly to both Chinese and global stakeholders
  • Strong cross-cultural collaboration skills and experience working with international teams and authorities
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin (written and spoken) to communicate with Chinese clients and authorities
  • Willingness to travel to China to support the business

Junior Analyst (02)

  • Experience and competence in own area of expertise (e.g. updating and preparing of data models with Reuters, Bloomberg information)
  • Deeper knowledge and development of further relevant skills in area of expertise
  • Deeper knowledge/skills in one area and extension to other areas of expertise
  • Need for moderate direction in own area of expertise
  • Application of knowledge/skills to a variety of day-to-day activities; identification of specific technical problems

  • Experience and high competence in own area of expertise (e.g. preparation and writing of reports and client investment ideas)

  • Independent completion of own role or with minimal supervision/guidance
  • Specialist knowledge in at least one area of expertise, and basic knowledge of other areas
  • Deployment of knowledge/skills in a variety of day-to-day and specific activities in a self-confident manner
  • Interpretation of needs of clients considering all requirements; development of solutions for specific tasks and requests based on the knowledge about client specific product portfolio
  • Interpretation of internal/external business backgrounds and best practices in own area of expertise and their application to own role
  • Active management of costs/revenues/quality; responsibility for ROE in own area; identification of risks and development of solutions to improve results (capital requirements, revenues, substantial results)
