Purpose and Key Accountabilities
The individual leads the trade control team and reports to the Global Head (GH). The role focuses on overseeing a team of trade controllers for monitoring trading activities, risk‑management for the Base Metals Division, ensuring robust governance, effective operational controls, regulatory compliance, and enabling operational efficiency while maintaining strong internal controls for Base Metals commodity (Copper concentrate, Zinc concentrate, Copper Anode, Copper cathode, Molybdenum concentrate).
In addition to the above responsibilities, the individual will also coordinate risk and control activities across global offices, develop new operational frameworks, strengthen group‑wide risk standards, and support business growth initiatives such as structured finance, new trading schemes, and business development including necessary risk assessment and preparing internal application and documentation.
The individual will also support the Global Head in coordinating the global Base Metals budget and KPI preparation, as well as providing weekly and monthly updates on budget progress, financial performance, and trade positions.
Job Responsibilities
1. Global Coordination, New Framework Development & Business Growth Support (30%)
- Coordinate risk and control activities across global RtM offices and Mitsubishi Corporation headquarters to ensure alignment with corporate policies, strategic direction, and governance standards.
- Develop, enhance, and implement new operational and risk‑management frameworks to support evolving business models and strengthen group‑wide risk discipline.
- Support business development initiatives, including structured finance transactions, new trading schemes, and establishment of new entities, by conducting risk assessments, preparing internal applications, and managing required documentation.
- Lead the preparation of global Base Metals budget and KPI materials, and provide weekly/monthly updates on budget progress, financial performance, and trade positions to the Global Head.
2. Trade Position and Risk Monitoring (25%)
- Verify trade confirmations, recaps, and contracts for physical and derivative trades.
- Oversee reconciliation of daily positions across physical and futures books, ensuring accuracy and consistency of data in CTRM.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in trade records through close coordination with Front Office and Trade Operations.
- Provide guidance to traders on position management to optimize revenue within approved risk limits.
3. Credit Risk Monitoring (20%)
- Monitor credit and warehouse line usage, assessing performance risks and exposures.
- Review credit applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
- Validate credit application contents and provide support as needed.
4. Collaboration, Issue Resolution & Operational Support (15%)
- Manage escalated operational issues and coordinate with relevant personnel to ensure timely settlement and workflow resolution.
- Oversee pre‑deal processes to ensure alignment with risk policies, manuals, and established governance standards.
- Review and monitor pre‑deal processes, contract and document approvals, and cross‑functional risk assessments (Market, Credit, Operational) to ensure compliance, robustness of controls, and alignment with corporate risk standards.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to conduct risk assessments, and provide recommendations to mitigate operational, market, and credit risks while ensuring compliance within policies and procedures.
- Ensure team members deliver clear and accurate Flash P&L reports for the management and traders.
5. Derivative Documentation (ISDA/CSA) (5%)
- Collaborate with corporate departments and counterparties to negotiate and set up ISDA and CSA.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all ISDA and CSA agreements, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
6. Systems & Process Optimization (5%)
- Collaborate with team members to review and implement initiatives with IT/DT and other relevant teams to identify opportunities for enhancing the CTRM system’s functionality.
- Drive system‑supported process improvements to reduce manual work and reinforce risk controls.
Experience
- At least 10‑15 years of proven expertise in trade control within Metals trading, covering both physical and derivatives trades.
- At least 3‑5 years of experience in leading and managing teams effectively.
- Demonstrated experience to engage stakeholders strategically and tactically, supported by a track record of success in managing challenges.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of Business Operations, including flow of international trade, Letters of Credit (L/C), Security Trade Control and Internal Control processes.
- Good STC (Export Control) and Compliance.
- Familiar with SAP software and Trading Platforms such as Entrade.
- An understanding of the economic, cultural and political environments that the company may face in the respective regions assigned.
Skills
- Business level proficiency in Japanese for both written and verbal communication is mandatory for the role. This is due to coordination with teams in Japan and for understanding information and preparing documents for internal company processes.
- Experience with Freight operations and including hands on experience of handling Bills of Lading (B/Ls), L/Cs and Bank Collections (B/Cs).
- Advance PC skills, including Microsoft Office, trading systems, and willingness to learn new systems.
