Job summary

Singapore Botanic Gardens seeks a dynamic Events & Exhibitions professional to shape and deliver experiences that engage diverse audiences and activate spaces across the Gardens. You will work with internal teams and external partners to develop new opportunities, refresh existing programmes and create cohesive visitor journeys.

[What the role is]

Established in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) is a leading tropical botany and cultural institution, with deep roots in research, conservation, horticulture and education. Its living and scientific collections support the study and conservation of plant diversity, and it has played a pivotal role in advancing the region’s botanical and horticultural knowledge.

As Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 82-hectare Gardens is also an important civic and cultural space, and an international visitor destination. Through its scientific, conservation, educational and public engagement work, the Gardens continues its mission of Connecting People, Plants and Place.

Against this backdrop, the Events & Exhibitions team plays an important role in bringing the Gardens’ spaces, heritage, collections and work to life through engaging public experiences.

[What you will be working on]

You will shape and deliver events, programmes and experiences that engage diverse audiences and strengthen the Gardens’ role as a civic, cultural and community space. A key focus of the role is placemaking – exploring how different spaces across the Gardens can be activated and experienced through events, performances, programmes, exhibitions and other forms of engagement.

You will work across teams and with external partners to develop new opportunities, connect different offerings across the Gardens, and refresh existing programmes and experiences to keep them relevant to current and future audiences.

• Developing and delivering events, programmes and experiences, including signature programmes such as the SBG Heritage Festival and Gardens-A-Glow.
• Developing placemaking initiatives that activate different spaces across the Gardens through performances, concerts, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other forms of engagement.
• Identifying opportunities to introduce new formats, experiences and uses of the Gardens’ spaces, while refreshing existing offerings for current and future audiences.
• Connecting events and programmes with exhibitions, venues and other offerings across the Gardens to create cohesive visitor experiences.
• Building and maintaining partnerships with cultural institutions, public agencies and other organisations to develop and deliver programmes and experiences.
• Working closely with internal teams, partners and external vendors to plan and deliver events and programmes.
• Managing project calendars, budgets, procurement, milestones and deliverables, and ensuring effective project delivery.

[What we are looking for]

• Strong creative and conceptual thinking, with the ability to develop engaging events, programmes and experiences for diverse audiences.
• An interest in placemaking and the ability to think creatively about how spaces can be activated and experienced in meaningful ways.
• Experience in programme development, events, arts and culture, audience engagement or related fields.
• Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and timelines within budget.
• Ability to develop new ideas and formats, while identifying opportunities to refresh and enhance established programmes and experiences.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to connect ideas and opportunities across different programmes, spaces and teams, and translate them into cohesive experiences for the public.
• Knowledge of, or interest in, the Singapore Botanic Gardens, nature, heritage, arts and culture would be an advantage.
• Flexibility to work staggered hours, weekends and after office hours when required.
