Manulife is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriter to join our High Net Worth (HNW) Underwriting team based in Singapore. As a recognized leader in the HNW insurance space, we specialize in underwriting complex and sizable life insurance applications in a dynamic and competitive market.

In this role, you will work closely with our bank and international broker distribution partners, evaluating sophisticated cases and delivering tailored underwriting solutions that meet the unique needs of affluent clients across the region.

Position Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the underwriting process.
  • Evaluate and classify risks in alignment with company philosophy and standards.
  • Take ownership of training and mentoring junior underwriters to support their professional development.
  • Analyze and interpret medical, non-medical, and financial information to make informed decisions within approval limits and determine appropriate requirements.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to evolving underwriting philosophies and apply innovative approaches.
  • Exhibit strong independent problem-solving skills, including conducting research and presenting viable solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with field and head office colleagues to deliver exceptional service and quality to customers.
  • Foster and maintain positive, productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consistently make competitive offers while upholding underwriting policies and mortality standards.
  • Contribute to project teams as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years’ underwriting experience.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of underwriting practices and a solid understanding of the company’s business operations.
  • Awareness of current corporate and external affairs.
  • General understanding of referral areas.

  • Solid understanding of insurance contract law and state legislative requirements.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the reinsurance marketplace, including underwriting strengths and weaknesses, to proactively support field operations.
  • Thorough understanding of automatic reinsurance agreements.
  • Expert knowledge of medical science, technology, and terminology, and their impact on mortality.
