Job description

BDC is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead legal matters relating to project procurement and construction. This position will be based in Singapore. The ideal candidate will provide pragmatic legal and strategic advice, contract management, risk mitigation, and compliance support to ensure that all projects proceed smoothly and in full compliance with local and international laws and regulations. Experience in procurement or engineering-related litigation will be a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Legal Support: Provide end-to-end legal support for the company’s procurement, engineering, and construction activities in operation regions.
  • Contract Review & Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of complex project agreements, including but not limited to EPC contracts, procurement and installation contracts, construction agreements, land purchase agreements, water supply agreements, and power supply agreements, etc.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Proactively identify and assess potential legal risks in project execution and develop effective risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Dispute Resolution: Provide legal advice and solutions in the event of supply-chain compliance issues, contractual disputes, or claims.
  • Litigation Support (Preferred): Where necessary, manage and coordinate external counsel in litigation or arbitration matters related to projects and participate in case strategy discussions.
  • Legal Research & Training: Stay updated on legal developments and regulatory changes, and provide training and guidance to internal teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, design, project management, cost, finance, and other internal teams to deliver timely and practical legal advice.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Law.
  • Professional Qualification: Admission to practice law in Singapore, the UK, or another recognized jurisdiction is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant legal experience in project construction, infrastructure, or project and energy sectors. Strong experience with procurement and construction contracts is required. Prior work experience in law firms or in-house legal teams of major corporations is an advantage.
  • Litigation Experience (Preferred): Practical experience handling commercial litigation, construction disputes, or arbitration is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Singapore construction law, contract law, and company law; familiarity with international standard forms such as FIDIC and JCT.
  • Core Skills: Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Communication: Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Personal Qualities: Highly responsible, able to work under pressure, and committed to strong professional ethics and integrity.
