Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future‑proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

In this role you will:
  • Assist and support the HSBC Premier Banking business in Singapore in its ambitious growth plans
  • Provide expert, commercially sensible and pragmatic legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that legal, reputational and conduct risks are identified, assessed and mitigated
  • Draft and review customer product documentation and third‑party agreements which may include distribution agreements and agreements for new strategic launches
  • Advise on matters relating to non‑face‑to‑face/digital customer engagement in respect of electronic payments, product take‑up, product advertisements and post‑sales servicing matters
  • Advise on matters arising during the client lifecycle including data privacy, client on‑boarding and exits, the management of complaints, disputes and internal investigations in respect of the Premier Banking business including frauds and scams management
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
  • Lead and manage external counsel engagement on transactions or projects in a cost‑effective manner
To be successful you will need:
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7 years’ experience
  • Experience with retail banking and/or wealth management product offerings, digital contracting, data and data privacy advisory and client lifecycle matters (disputes, complaints). Experience with electronic payments, frauds and scams management would be an advantage
  • Confident practitioner with excellent technical legal skills; Ability to handle a diverse range of issues, work under pressure and in dynamic and fluid situations
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Self‑starter, ability to apply sound commercial and legal judgment
  • Team player that is adaptable, open to innovation and new ideas/ways of working
