A leading consultancy firm in Singapore is seeking an experienced in-house legal counsel to manage legal issues related to customer and vendor agreements. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of contract and privacy law, and possess excellent negotiation skills. This role requires at least 10 years of legal experience, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region, particularly Singapore.

Job Description & Requirements

The in-house legal counsel is responsible for negotiating and resolving legal issues relating to Iron Mountain’s customer agreements, partner and reseller agreements, and vendor agreements; collaborating with internal business partners to develop contract negotiation strategy; and ensuring appropriate risk in contracts by negotiating Iron Mountain preferred language whenever possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, negotiate and advise internal business teams on a variety of contractual documents including customer facing agreements, partner, and vendor agreements, and associated documents related to privacy and information security. Manage multiple transactions at a time.
  • Possess working knowledge of all Iron Mountain business lines and the legal issues associated with them. Familiarity with standard and fallback positions and ability to pose creative solutions to help meet business needs.
  • Advises business colleagues in structuring deals and drafting agreements to protect the interests of the companies and businesses.
  • Have working knowledge of the various different departments, functions and groups in the different Iron Mountain businesses in different jurisdictions.
  • Work as an effective and collaborative business partner with internal business teams including account, sales, procurement, information security, privacy and compliance, and others.
  • Develop legal strategy for negotiations, clearly and concisely explain terms of contracts to internal clients, present options for negotiations, and negotiate directly with customers, partners and vendors.
  • Work as an effective and collaborative partner to other legal counsel on the APAC Legal team as well as on the Iron Mountain Global Legal team.
  • Effectively manage workflow to meet multiple deadlines, as well as the expectations of internal and external clients.
  • Educate internal clients and ensure adherence to Iron Mountain’s Thirteen Best Global Contracting Practices and Iron Mountain ANZ Contract Guide.
  • Assist with updates to Iron Mountain’s customer and vendor contract templates.
  • Assist with creation of new contract templates to support new service offerings as needed.
  • Assist with various legal team initiatives/projects as needed.
Qualifications

This job requires a legal degree, and 10 years or more experience as a solicitor, preferably with functional knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of contract law and strategic approaches to contracting for customer, vendor and partner agreements.
  • Working knowledge of privacy law and key components of information security practices.
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills with an understanding of negotiation strategies and implications of contract language nuances.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Proven track record of consistently delivering timely results for multiple projects with varying time pressures.
  • Ability to assess issues from both legal and business perspectives to clearly define risks, provide solutions, and succinctly articulate positions.
  • Must take initiative, be self-motivated, and flexible, and be able to reprioritize work as necessary.
  • Team player who works well with others to meet goals and address business needs, but who also has the ability to work autonomously.
  • Possesses a positive “can do” attitude and the ability to adjust to rapid change/pace.
  • Experience in balancing legal positions and business needs, preferably in a law firm or in-house position.
  • Complex judgments, in depth analysis (business and legal), interpretive thinking and the ability to independently develop innovative solutions.
  • Developed communication skills to partner, communicate and negotiate complicated issues with various levels within an organization both internally and externally.
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing contracts within the China and Asia Pacific market; as such, proficiency in the Chinese language is essential.
  • At least 10 years of experience in handling legal matters and issues in jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific Region, especially in Singapore, Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand.
